PICKS OF THE WEEK:Eat Healthy in the New YearAmong the most common New Year’s resolutions is to start eating healthier. This can mean many things to many people, but by and large it usually boils down to eating less processed food and eating a healthier balanced diet. A great way to eat healthier is to know where your food comes from. The Crescent City Farmers Market is dedicated to connecting customers directly with local farmers, fishers, ranchers, dairies, bakers and food makers within 200 miles of the Greater New Orleans area. Food from the market is mostly fresh, unprocessed, and buying locally minimizes transportation distance and time to ensure maximum freshness, taste and nutrient retention. Just-harvested produce is packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants that have been shown to protect against chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. Find what you need to start your new year off right at the Crescent City Farmers Market. |
Building Community Through Literacy! One Book One New Orleans (OBONO) builds literacy and community by selecting one book each year and encouraging New Orleans residents to read it at the same time. This year’s selection is The Yellow House by New Orleanian Sarah M. Broom, a memoir chronicling her and her family’s life in New Orleans East. On Thursday, December 30th, OBONO will be giving away copies at the Mid-City Farmers Market at The Lafitte Greenway Plaza, 500 N. Norman C. Francis Parkway, from 3 PM to 7 PM. |

VENDOR OF THE WEEK:New Vendor: Black Creek FarmStarted by Mike Juneau and his wife Christina back in 2016, Black Creek is a small farm in Picayune, MS raising pork, beef, chicken, and sometimes turkeys! After serving in the U.S. Navy, Mike and his wife retired in MS to start their own farm after feeling frustrated by the lack of transparency in the meat industry. With 75 cattle and over 60 Hereford hogs, Black Creek Farms will be bringing GMO and antibiotic free, pasture-raised, grass-fed beef and pork products, including various steaks and roasts, naturally cured bacon (both pork and beef), MSG free sausages, and occasionally whole chicken. You can find them weekly at the Tuesday Uptown Market or every other Sunday at the City Park Market. |
