This Week at the Crescent City Farmers' Market

BBQ and Chill

In case you haven’t heard, the Crescent City Farmers Market Backyard BBQ is back for round two. Join us at Central City BBQ on Sunday, October 13th from 4-7pm for this family-friendly fundraiser benefiting the Crescent City Farmers Market. The Backyard BBQ will feature over 20 local farm-supporting restaurants, a whole pig roast, local beers, garden-to-glass cocktails, live music by Dave Jordan and the Neighborhood Improvement Association, silent auction, and fall-themed kids activities (including a bounce house!). Enjoy small plates and beverages featuring local, seasonal ingredients from:
12 Mile Limit, Aglio, Bacchanal, Barracuda, Carmo, Clancy’s, Cochon Butcher, Del Fuego Taqueria, Frencheeze, Gabrielle, Jack Rose, LUVI, Marjie’s Grill, Max Well, Mosquito Supper Club, Saba, Turkey and the Wolf/Molly’s Rise and Shine, Toups South, Seven Three Distilling Co. and more.
Your support will help to sustain the mission and programs of the Crescent City Farmers Market and preserve and grow our local food system.
Tickets are on sale now! Tickets start at $60 for adults and $5 for children and include all the eating, drinking, and dancing you can do but go up after October 3rd to $75 and $10 respectively. Don’t sleep on our Patron Party tickets, which offer one hour early entry, special acknowledgement and thank you gift!
We are currently seeking volunteers for our fundraiser. Support the Crescent City Farmers Market by lending your time and hands with event set up, kids’ activities, run of show, chef assistance, and break down. Reward yourself with FREE ENTRY to our all inclusive event! Check out our calendar of available volunteer opportunities and sign up for a spot directly through the calendar.

Ochsner Market

Join us Wednesdays from 3-7pm at 2614 Jefferson Highway in front of the Ochsner Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson starting October 2nd. Expect to find all of your favorite vendors like Monica’s Okra World, Honest Foods Co, Mycelium Express, T&R Dairy, Ollie’s Hot Tamales, and Fletcher Farms. Check out new vendors including Miss Green Jeans Hot Sauce, Know Dat Grow Dat, Josey’s Goods, and so much more. Chock full of local produce, seafood, meats, dairy, honey, prepared foods and value added foods, this market highlights health, with monthly cooking demonstrations by Eat Fit on the first Wednesday of the month and more. Rivertown Market

This Saturday market runs weekly from 9am-1pm and is located at LaSalle’s Landing, where Williams ends at the levee on the River and returns Saturday October 5th. Set in the butterfly garden in historic Kenner, this market has all your shopping bases covered. Find fresh local produce, artisan breads and baked goods, pickles and preserves, honey, dairy, eggs and so much more! See the return of your favorite vendors including Indian Springs Farmers Cooperative, Monica’s Okra World, Things n Stuff, Fleur Dough Lis, Tomotts Cajun Growers and Faust Farms. Plus, we’re excited to welcome new vendors Pointe Coupee Minority Growers Co-Op, Hippie Kitchen, Brown Hat Dairy, and Windfield Farm Bakery to our expanding lineup. Windfield Welcome Party

The day is here! Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 1st, we will welcome back Windfield Farm Bakery to the market. Rob and Suzie have been with us since the beginning, but it’s time to pass the torch. This will be their last market with CCFM, but we will witness the birth of a new generation of bakers as the Bancks pass their bakery on to their son and daughter in law. Come say goodbye to Rob and Suzie and hello to the new faces of Windfield Farm Bakery. They’ll have all the ooey gooeys, morning glory muffins, and famous Rob advice just like always. With new faces, you can expect a Filipino twist on the classics and an expanded menu. Find Windfield Farm Bakery at the Uptown, Ochsner, Bucktown, and Rivertown markets starting this week.

Joe Fekete’s Family Farm

This family owned and operated farm grows produce right outside of Amite, Louisiana, bringing their harvest to farmers markets in the area. After retiring from a career in education, Joe Fekete wanted to get back to his roots and reconnect with the earth. Farming allowed him to settle into his niche in life: playing in the dirt. The farm embraces the cyclical nature of the land and doesn’t try to fight mother nature. By growing seasonal produce, Joe Fekete’s Family Farm helps to restore balance in nature and in the local community. Though Fekete started at the Gretna Louisiana Farmers Market in 2005, he is a relatively new vendor at Crescent City Farmers Market. Their current selection of produce includes cushaw, pumpkin, eggplant, summer squash and some early greens. Come check it out!

Del Fuego Taqueria

Del Fuego Taqueria, the Magazine Street taqueria serving Mexican street food (and frequent market shoppers) is heating things up at the Green Plate Special tent in October. Come see and taste how they use Crescent City Farmers Market produce in their dishes. This week you’ll find grab and go fresh-made salsas, dips, and tostadas, wraps and salads to order with market greens, roasted veggies, Gulf shrimp & more! Swing by for breakfast or lunch Tuesdays in October from 9-1pm at 200 and find Del Fuego Taqueria at the Backyard BBQ on October 13th.

Simple Tomato Tart Recipe

Fall has finally found us! On the heels of this cooler weather is Louisiana’s second round of tomatoes. With the addition of Joe Fekete’s Family Farm and the return of Tomott’s Cajun Growers, heirloom tomatoes are sure to abound at the market. These beauties are delicious on their own or as a ’mater sandwich but did you know that cooking them makes them even more nutritious? The cooking process increases the release of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant, that helps us to reduce our risk of heart-disease and cancer. Here’s a delicious tomato tart you can feel good about treating yourself to!
