Louisiana has the second highest breast cancer death rate in the country – mostly because women don’t have access to screening – but there is a statewide program that provides no-cost mammograms and which can help save those lives. And we need you to help us get the word out about it.
If you’re reading this, hopefully, you know the program is the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program or LBCHP, because you’re on our website and/or reading about us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Now we’re asking you to let others know. Tell everyone you know that low-income women (those who make up to 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level) and who are uninsured or underinsured are eligible for our program. (For exact income requirements go to to www.lbchp.org/program-eligibility/.)
As for mammograms specifically, we provide those for women between 50 and 64 years old, with women in their 40s eligible for clinical breast exams. And any woman having symptoms or other physical findings, regardless of age, can be referred for a diagnostic mammogram.
