Update on the health care reform debate

Congress is gearing up to revive health care reform efforts and we need your help to protect patients. Although the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which was introduced on March 24, failed to get enough support to move forward, efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare) are back on the table. We need you to contact Members of Congress and ask them to protect patients.

Although details of the new bill have not been confirmed, it is critical that your Members of Congress put patients first as they consider ways to reform our health care system. The priorities of the Cancer Support Community (CSC) include access, coverage, affordability, and equity for patients living with chronic illnesses such as cancer. You can read our Health Care Principles for Individuals Impacted by Cancer to learn more.

We are concerned with provisions of health care reform efforts that will shift more costs to the consumer, provide insufficient insurance coverage, and fail to protect patients with chronic illnesses such as cancer. Changes to essential health benefits, Medicaid, and subsidies to help patients pay for care are not acceptable. Likewise, patients with pre-existing conditions cannot be discriminated against and there can be no annual or lifetime caps on coverage. Please take a moment today to contact your Representative and ask them to put patients first. You can easily send an email through our online system by clicking the link below and filling in your information.
Congress is also on recess for the next two weeks and we can help to connect you with your Representative if you would like to request a meeting in your district. Simply email me at efranklin@cancersupportcommunity.org if you would like assistance setting up a meeting.

Contact Congress

Sincerely,
