Dear
We are writing to you today to ask for your help in opposing the American Health Care Act (AHCA). This bill was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and is now in the Senate for consideration. The Senate cannot pass the AHCA without risking the health and wellbeing of millions of patients. Cancer patients will pay more for less, if they can afford insurance at all.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which analyzes legislation and predicts the financial impact, stated that the AHCA would leave 23 million people uninsured. The CBO also stated that "people who are less healthy (including those with preexisting or newly acquired medical conditions) would ultimately be unable to purchase comprehensive nongroup health insurance at premiums comparable to those under current law, if they could purchase it at all..."
Under the AHCA, cancer patients could lose coverage and people with preexisting conditions may not be able to afford health insurance. Contact your Senators today and tell them that they must find a way to improve the health care system that protects patients. The AHCA is not the solution.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Franklin
