Let the Sunshine In!
May! It’s finally here. I don’t know about you, but where we live, we had A LOT of April showers! I’m so ready for those proverbial “May flowers.” We finally are seeing more of the sunshine that was behind the April showers, and I intend on relishing what’s left of spring before the heat of summer arrives. I am a life-long Nashville resident and our summers can get very hot and steamy. Spring and fall remain my absolute favorite times of the year before the temperature extremes we tend to get in summer and winter. I am ready to celebrate May, including the sunshine!
So, what is going on with NOU magazine as we start this awesome month of spring? Well, let me tell you! For one, we are soon making our final selections for articles which will appear in the FIRST print edition of NOU magazine which will debut at 2017 SURVIVORville. WOOHOO! It is going to be AMAZING, both the magazine and the convention. If you have never been to SURVIVORville, wow, let me tell you – you do not know what you are missing. If you would like to submit an article for consideration as we decide which ones will appear in the inaugural print edition, please get in touch with us right away as we are getting very close to a final submission date for entries. Visit the
SURVIVORville website to learn more about the convention if you have never been or if you would like to register.
We are planning great content for this month’s edition of NOU. Find out more about hair care in the summer months from NOU contributor Cheryl Whitt, cosmetologist and wife of a cancer survivor, sun safety in the warmer months as we start soaking in those warm weather rays, great health information in recognition of National Women’s Health Month, and of course surprise topics from our regular NOU contributors Chef Mary, Jessica Meyer, and Ms. Karen Shayne who always have timely and encouraging messages and content. I can’t wait to see what they share during this lovely month of May. Of course, it is also Mother’s Day month and a great time to hear from our readers as they share special memories of their mother or their memories AS a mother for those who have children- human and otherwise. Please enjoy this month’s edition of NOU and “Let the Sunshine In” as we enjoy this awesome season.
I also want to say, that sunshine can be shared. No, not the big ball of orange in the sky. Yourself. No matter what the weather is like outside, be sure and let YOURSELF shine. And SHARE that sunshine with others. Your kind words and deeds may be the sunshine someone needs. Sharing your survivorship story can be that sunshine and the inspiration that someone needs. Please consider sharing your story at this year’s SURVIVORville. If you missed my editor’s letter from last month, you might not have heard that at the convention this year, we are going to have women share their stories of survivorship and record those stories to be used – with permission – in some of our future WSA television programming and other promotional endeavors. That’s right, New Focus Network (NFN), a digital media broadcasting company headquartered in Nashville, will officially launch its programming to the cancer survivor community around the country at SURVIVORville on
Friday, July 21, 2017. NFN will be at SURVIVORville to ensure EVERY woman who wants to share her story has it recorded edited, and ready to share with the world through its lifestyle programming. It’s another avenue to get those stories out there for listening ears who are looking for inspiration and hope and just need some “sunshine.” NFN programming is available on Smart TV platforms Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, and Chromecast. Come “share your sunshine” (i.e., your story of survivorship) with others who may need some inspiration and encouragement. If you want to learn more about New Focus Network, and to see a full list of programming or to subscribe, visit their
website. I can’t wait to see YOUR story of survivorship on NFN’s channels!
Let your sun shine brightly this month and don’t forget to SHARE YOUR SUNSHINE! I look forward to seeing many of you at SURVIVORville in just TWO short months!
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you will never see the shadow.” Helen Keller
