We are Survivors!
Pool time. Drive-in movies (yes, they are still out there!). Road trips. Beaches. Ice cold beverages. Celebrating survivorship. It is that time of the year. School is out and it’s time for all of those rituals that are part of summer. That includes celebrating cancer survivorship. Did you know that June is National Cancer Survivor Month?
According to the
National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, administrator for the celebration, “National Cancer Survivors Day® is an annual worldwide Celebration of Life that is held on the first
Sunday every June. It is the one day each year that people around the world come together to recognize the cancer survivors in their community, to raise awareness of the challenges these survivors face, and, most importantly, to celebrate life.” According to the Foundation, “A ‘survivor’ is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.”
We all know someone who has been touched by cancer.
The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation encourages everyone to participate in their community’s events and activities. If you aren’t sure what is going on in your area, ask your local cancer treatment center, hospital, or American Cancer Society office. You can host an event of your own using the resources available through the National Cancer Survivors Day® website,
ncsd.org. And don’t forget
SURVIVORville 2017 coming in July. What a great way to participate in activities designed for and by cancer survivors. The agenda is amazing and you’ll be so glad you came. Take a look at what’s in store for those who attend. Sure, there will be some education along with empowerment, but It WILL be a celebration as well! If you have ever been to a
SURVIVORville event, you know what I am talking about. Get ready to celebrate survivorship at this year’s event.
As the number of cancer survivors continues to grow, the
Women Survivors Alliance recognizes the importance of addressing the unique needs of women survivors. We know that many face limited access to healthcare specialists. We know that there is a lack of information about promising new treatments. We know that so many face inadequate or no insurance. We know there are struggles with finding employment. And we know all about the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social struggles cancer survivors face. That’s why we are here. Join us this month as NOU provides great features for and by cancer survivors as we always do. And get ready for our inaugural print edition in July, that includes specially selected features from women survivors who are ready to share their stories, thoughts, hopes and dreams as well as struggles, and most of all, their courage and inspiration.
Celebrate cancer survivorship with us throughout June and into July as we kickoff
SURVIVORville 2017. CELEBRATE!
Be educated, empowered, INSPIRED, and stay SURVIVOR strong!
