September is ALL about fitness!--New Focus Daily

New Focus Daily
There are two great observances in September that do just that – focus on health and fitness. National Family Health and Fitness Day is observed Saturday, September 30th, 2017.  Since 1997, the last Saturday in September has been designated for this day which encourages families everywhere to focus on being healthy.   Women’s Health & Fitness Day is the nation’s largest annual health promotion event for women of all ages with this year’s observance taking place on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.  Women’s Health and Fitness Day is always held on the last Wednesday in September. This national program focuses on women and cities across the country will announce activities and opportunities to for women to get healthy and to educate themselves on health and fitness-related topics.
Check your neighborhood social media feeds as well as keep your eyes and ears tuned to local news to find out what is going on in YOUR part of the country and get out and join the fun with these fun observances.   Or come up with your OWN ideas!
  • Want to try yoga but never tried it? Check out the 4-part series in this month’s New Focus Daily that will tell you everything you need to know about yoga. Grab a friend to take with you.
  • Want to try a new recipe? We have recipes each month from Chef Mary and you can even go back and browse the archives for more Chef Mary recipes along with others we have featured in the magazine.
  • Do something as simple as skipping a night of TV for a brisk walk with the family, getting out and doing yardwork as a family, or something really “retro” like throwing a frisbee or ball around, which seems to get overlooked so often in favor of electronics and digital devices.
  • Make those appointments for well-woman health that get pushed to the side because of busy calendars.
  • Find a local fitness professional in your area. If you don’t know one, take a look at one of our partners, Medical Fitness Network.  They have a FREE online directory of fitness and allied healthcare professionals who work with people with varying needs, chronic conditions, and levels of fitness.
Whatever you do, do SOMETHING for YOUR health – and your family’s health – on these two special days.    And maybe you’ll just make it an everyday practice!
