Dear
Cathy,
Today, our Louisiana lawmakers will begin
a special two-week legislative session to address the impending $1 billion
fiscal crisis.
Critical funding for the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program
(LBCHP) could be at risk for devastating budget cuts. We’re going to need your help to make sure that doesn’t happen!
This program helps provide low-income, uninsured and underinsured women
with access to breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services.
It is estimated that
3,400 women in Louisiana will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and 630
will die from the disease. When
detected early, survival rates are well over 90% and the cost of treatment is significantly less than it would be for
cancers found at a later stage.
ACS CAN will be working with our Louisiana
legislators to help ensure that vital funding for the LBCHP is sustained. Please
stay tuned for opportunities to take action!
You can find the
latest updates on all our cancer fighting campaigns by visiting our Facebook page and our ACS CAN State
Website.
Sincerely,
Alice Williams, Louisiana Grassroots Manager
