Dear Cathy,
The 2018 Louisiana Regular Session began on Monday, March 12th. Our lawmakers are rolling up their
sleeves to get to work – and so are we.
Due to the unpredictable nature of the Louisiana
Legislature, we’ve decided to change our lobby day plans. This year we’re going
to double down on our efforts by hosting not one, but TWO ACS CAN Days at the Capitol. The first event will take place
on Tuesday, April 17th and
the second on Thursday, May 3rd.
Your voice is critically important to make sure our elected officials make cancer
issues a top priority. We’d love to have you join us and other passionate
activists from across the state at one (or both) of the 2018
ACS CAN Day at the Capitol events.
Both
events are free and limited lodging is still available for those traveling from
out of town. Due
to the short notice, please register as soon as possible. Training will be provided, so no previous experience is necessary.
Additionally, lunch will be provided to all participants along with lodging for
those traveling from out of town.
During the 2017 session, ACS CAN
advocates were successful in sustaining vital funding for the Louisiana Breast
and Cervical Health Program (LBCHP) and the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) and
passing a healthy food vending machine policy for all public buildings.
We know this progress was made possible
through the work of our advocates who bravely shared their stories with
lawmakers. Your voice is needed to help us build on last year’s successes. We
will be working hard to protect access to critical prevention and screening
programs, as well as letting lawmakers know we think it’s time to protect all
Louisiana workers from toxic secondhand smoke.
We look forward to seeing you at the
Capitol on April 17th and/or May 3rd as we double our
cancer-fighting efforts!
Sincerely,
Alice
