If you’re looking for produce grown with absolutely no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, and using other environmentally sustainable practices, or, if you’re looking for totally unique products you can’t find anywhere else, you’ve probably been missing Amorphous Gardens at our Tuesday market. They suffered almost total crop loss in a recent hail storm but should be back on April 24th. Two Dog Farm, a new-ish Tuesday vendor will be returning to market on April 10th after their winter break bringing us naturally grown leeks, spring onions, pea shoots, and a wide variety of greens, cabbage and beets, among others. Last but not least, Inglewood Farm, one of Louisiana’s only USDA certified organic growers, will begin the Tuesday market as soon as they recover from record spring rainfalls, hopefully in early May. They’ll be coming with produce specialties like heirloom radishes, green garlic, spicy greens mix (pictured) and organic strawberries, but also heritage breed pork, pasture raised whole chicken and chicken cuts, and pecans and pecan oil. And of course, you can find Poche Family Farm, Veggi Farmer’s Co-Op, Major Acre Farm and Grow Dat Youth Farm who all use natural practices at markets throughout the week. It’s worth mentioning that hydroponic growers (Cajun Growers, Brickwall Farm, Our Family Farm, and Tomott’s Cajun Farm) grow in tightly controlled conditions so pesticides are not needed. However, this method is based on the addition of a plant food, often synthetic, that must be added to the growing medium.

Picks of the Week:Farm Internship Opportunity
Major Acre Farm is looking for a spring intern! You will work alongside Ellis as well as on your own learning sustainable and natural growing practices on a one acre farm in LaPlace, Louisiana. As on any vegetable farm there is a lot to learn and do - you’ll learn about cultivating and tending to crops as well as harvesting, washing, and packing produce. You will also be getting your hands dirty learning the ins and outs of seeding, transplanting, greenhouse management, soil management, pest and disease control, irrigation setup and operation, and mulching. There is the opportunity to attend farmers markets if interested, but not required. Compensation: transportation stipend and commission on sales, weekly share of harvest and invaluable experience to start your own farm with. Seeking Culinary Mentors
Healthy Little Cooks is a non-profit organization that teaches children how to cook simple and healthy meals through cooking events and demonstrations. Their Kid Ambassador Program is seeking 1-2 culinary mentors in the New Orleans area to volunteer to teach hands-on monthly classes to Kid Ambassadors for 12 months. These classes will include basic culinary techniques, food safety, etc. In addition, culinary mentors will serve as a support and resource person for kid ambassadors and their parents. Vendor of the Week:Lana’s Sweets for All Occasions
When she’s not traveling the country to train horses or helping her brother (fellow market vendor Pete Gerica) fillet fish, you can find Lana Mayer and all of her sweets at the Crescent City Farmers Market. Lana has been with the market since the opening of the Tuesday location in Uptown on Broadway Street. On her colorful table featuring rotating themes, you can always find an assortment of homemade lollipops, brownies, cookies, cornbread, and fudge, just to name a few. Favorites include her holiday sugar cookies - pumpkins, gingerbread men, easter eggs, you name it! You can even find her special peanut butter dog treats! Find Lana’s Sweets at Tuesday market Uptown and Thursday market in Mid-City.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special:Del Fuego Taqueria
Del Fuego Taqueria, the Magazine Street taqueria serving Mexican street food (and frequent market shoppers) is heating things up at the Green Plate Special tent. Come see and taste how they use Crescent City Farmers Market produce in their dishes and be sure to check out the sikil pak, a creamy, ultra-umami dip made of pumpkin seeds. Swing by for breakfast or lunch Tuesdays in April from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 200 Broadway Street.

Recipe of the Week:Roasted Radishes
Y’all. This recipe by the Clever Carrot is killing it and it only has 4 ingredients. Yup. Four. This is my go-to spring recipe for radishes. While radishes are just fine sliced or pickled in a salad, like with so many vegetables, roasting reveals a whole new flavor profile. We have been seeing scarlet radishes at market and when roasted, they become soft, almost creamy and much more mellow in flavor which couples perfectly with the heat of the lemon pepper, bringing these up a notch. As spring progresses, you’ll see all kinds of radishes at market. Pick up your favorite or try a new one in this great recipe!
