Advocacy Request from the American Cancer Society

Cathy,

Silence ...

A new health insurance proposal being reviewed by the federal government would increase blatant discrimination against cancer patients.

The proposal would expand the use of a certain type of health plan that could deny coverage for cancer patients and survivors and refuse to cover basic needs like prescription drugs.

Despite thousands of volunteers submitting public comments and contacting their member of Congress to oppose this proposal, all we’re getting is silence.

Well, it’s time to turn up the volume. It’s time for Twitter.

Please tweet the below message to Secretary Alex Azar, whose department is overseeing this misguided proposal.

Withdraw the short-term plan rule, @secazar. Expansion of these plans would hurt cancer patients and survivors, and increase their health care costs. #KeepUsCovered

Even the Administration’s proposed rule acknowledges that these plans deny coverage for individuals with preexisting conditions, and don’t have to offer products with prescription drug coverage.

It’s time to turn silence into action.

Thank you,

Erin O’Neill
Vice President, Grassroots Strategy
