FRIDAY NIGHTS AT NOMA: Member Appreciation Night, New Orleans' greatest piano geniuses team up on screen, tour Changing Course exhibition, listen to Crossing Canal duet
New Orleans music fans are in for a treat this Friday night as the renowned but rarely broadcast documentary Piano Players Rarely Ever Play Together fills the big screen and nostalgic hearts. The 1982 film brought legends Tuts Washington, Allen Toussaint, and Professor Longhair together for a jam session never to be duplicated. For Member Appreciation Night, NOMA members will receive a complimentary drink at any of the bars, and an extra 10% off sales items in the Museum Shop. Join Curatorial Fellow Brian Piper for a tour of the ongoing exhibition Changing Course: Reflections on New Orleans Histories. At Café NOMA, the Artful Palate cooking demonstrations continue with a chef preparing jambalaya. Arrive early and stay late for Friday Nights at NOMA on August 10:

Free admission on August days that top 93 degrees
From now through August 31, when the weather forecast from FOX8 News is predicted to top 93 degrees, admission is free to NOMA the following day for all Louisiana residents courtesy of The Helis Foundation. Wednesday, August 8, is the first qualifying date and the offer is extended to ALL visitors. Watch the nightly broadcasts with meteorologist David Bernard and look for notices on NOMA's Facebook page or the NOMA website. Additionally, free sno-balls will be served at an outdoor booth from Imperial Woodpecker Sno-balls and a raffle will be held with a prize print of colorful sno-balls by photographer David Armentor.

Mujeres de Cine Film Series continues with Júlia 1st

The Mujeres de Cine Film Series continues with a screening of Júlia 1st, the story of a college-age Spanish woman who travels Berlin to study abroad. Once there, in a cold, gray city alone, she must compare her expectations -- and her own self perception -- with reality. (Not rated | 2017 | 1 hour, 30 minutes | Watch the trailer). The film series, which features the work of Spanish women filmmakers, will conclude on Saturday, August 25, at 2 pm with the movie Summer 1993.

Artful Palate cooking demonstrations
Every Friday through August 24, chefs of the Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group demonstrate their own culinary masterpieces at Café NOMA's "Artful Palate," the annual summer cooking series featuring artfully inspired demonstrations at the New Orleans Museum of Art. In conjunction with the launch of Changing Course: Reflections on New Orleans Histories, the talented executive chefs and sous chefs of Café NOMA, Ralph's on the Park, Red Fish Grill, Brennan's, and Napoleon House will share culinary visions inspired by the exhibit, which will commemorate the past and look to the future by offering a contemporary twist on iconic New Orleans dishes. Join Curators and Docents for Small Talks and Noontime Talks
Small Talks are a new addition to the lineup of programs at NOMA. These 10- to 15-minute discussions focus on a single object or small range of objects within the permanent collection or special exhibitions. Throughout Museum Month in August, there will be at least one Small Talk per day. From Newborns to Three-Year-Olds, BABY ARTSPLAY! Invites NOMA'S Youngest Vistors to a Stimulating Saturday Morning

Instill a love of art at an early age through a guided, hands-on experience. Young Audiences Wolf Trap teaching artists will present a series of six workshops on Saturday mornings for children ages 0-3 and their caregivers. Active-Duty Military and Families Admitted FREE for Summer

NOMA is proud to be a Blue Star Museum. In collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 participating museums nationwide, active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, are granted free admission from now through Labor Day, September 3.

NOMA Book Club to Discuss the Remarkable Legacy of an Obscure Mississippi Artist
Join NOMA staff and fellow book lovers as we read and discuss fiction and nonfiction books related to art, artists, art museums, NOMA's collections and exhibitions. See the 2018 schedule and reading list here.
NOTE: The Book Club will meet in NOMA's board room on the second floor during the August sessions due to construction near the museum's ground-floor library.
The selection for August is The Artist's Sketch: A Biography of Painter Kate Freeman Clark by Carolyn J. Brown, the chronicle of an obscure Mississippi artist who left behind an impressive lifetime collection to her hometown of Holly Springs, prompting the construction of a gallery.
Book Club members may join in a group discussion about the book on either Wednesday, August 15, from 1:30 - 3 pm, or Thursday, August 16, from 12 - 1 pm.

IN THE WEEKS AHEAD at NOMA
Docent guided tours of the collection or special exhibitions are offered Tuesdays through Sundays at 1 pm.
Friday, August 17, 5 - 9 pm: Artist Katrina Andry, whose installation inChanging Course addresses the upheaval of urban renewal and community displacement, will discuss her work as part of Friday Nights at NOMA. Filmmaker Rebecca Snedeker will be present for a Q&A following a screening of her documentary By Invitation Only, a behind-the-scenes look at New Orleans' most exclusive Mardi Gras krewes. Singer/songwriter Kathryn Rose Woods will perform in the Great Hall.
Saturday, August 18, 2 pm: The Architecture and Design Film Festival, sponsored by the Louisiana Architecture Foundation, will offer a "sneak peek" of two films about three individuals who reshaped typography, mapping, in the latter decades of the 20th century: Visions Not Previously Seen: The Groundbreaking Design Work of Barbara Stauffacher Solomon and Design Is One: Lella and Massimo Vignelli (Watch the trailer).
Wednesday, August 22, 12 pm: Chicago-based artist Edra Soto will visit NOMA and deliver a Noontime Talk about fellow artist Carlos Rolón and his solo exhibition Outside/In, courtesy of The Helis Foundation.
Buy tickets now for the NOLA Project's latest production to be staged in NOMA's Great Hall for ten nights from September 6 -16. The Revolutionists, an all-female production, features four beautiful, badass women who lose their heads in this girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror.
