The Architecture and Design Film Festival presents two "sneak peek" film screenings at NOMA
Saturday, August 18, 2 pm
NOMA will host an advance "sneak peek" screening of two films selected to be part of the 2018 Architecture and Design Film Festival, sponsored by the Louisiana Architecture Foundation. Both films chronicle the lasting impact of three twentieth-century design iconoclasts, starting with the short documentary Visions Not Previously Seen: The Groundbreaking Work of Barbara Stauffacher Solomon (15 minutes). Solomon is credited with much of the "California cool" style that emerged in the 1960s. Design is One: Lella and Massimo Vignelli (1 hour, 19 minutes) examines the visionary design practices of a couple whose life work includes the New York subway map, Heller dinnerware, and branding for Saks Fifth Avenue, Ford Motors, and American airlines. Watch the trailer below.

NOMA Book Club to Discuss the Remarkable Legacy of an Obscure Mississippi Artist
Join NOMA staff and fellow book lovers as we read and discuss fiction and nonfiction books related to art, artists, art museums, NOMA's collections and exhibitions. See the 2018 schedule and reading list here.
NOTE: The Book Club will meet in NOMA's board room on the second floor during the August sessions due to construction near the museum's ground-floor library.
The selection for August is The Artist's Sketch: A Biography of Painter Kate Freeman Clark by Carolyn J. Brown, the chronicle of an obscure Mississippi artist who left behind an impressive lifetime collection to her hometown of Holly Springs, prompting the construction of a gallery.
Book Club members may join in a group discussion about the book on either Wednesday, August 15, from 1:30 - 3 pm, or Thursday, August 16, from 12 - 1 pm.
Please contact NOMA Librarian Sheila Cork to reserve space for future sessions of the NOMA Book Club at scork@noma.org or 504.658.4117.
