Everybody knows that cancer is hard. Everybody knows that it makes you sick, pale, and usually bald. You won’t want to eat, you’ll be in the hospital, and you’ll have to face the uncertainty of whether you will live or die.
People will expect you to struggle.
You will likely lose weight. You may have to miss work. You’ll want to give up, but your friends will cheer you on, reminding you that you are stronger than cancer. They’ll expect you to be positive, brave, and inspiring.
But they will also know you need help.People will expect you to struggle.

Because cancer’s not easy. They do know this much. They’ve probably seen family members, friends, or neighbors go through it, so they think they know what to expect.
