Fresh & Local:

Making Groceries in the French Market

That’s right, the Crescent City Farmers Market in the French Market reopens this week! We have all of your favorites back on board. Our returning vendors include the likes of Timmy of Perilloux Produce (he only grows big vegetables!), Mayhew Bakery with the best sourdough baguette in town, Burg’s Bees - our favorite honey vendor, Blue Tara Blueberry Farm with certified organic frozen blueberries and sugar and additive free fruit popsicles, and Four Winds Seafood bringing fresh caught shrimp and whatever else finds its way onto the boat. To round out the options, check out the table at the welcome area, where you can find fruits like satsumas and persimmons, eggs, and more from our Tuesday vendors who can’t make it to the Wednesday market.
Don’t forget about live music every week and fresh and healthy cooking demos every week! Stop by 1235 N. Peters St. Wednesdays from 1-5pm to make your groceries in the Historic French Market. We offer validation for two hours of free parking in the French
Market lot along the river if you want to hang around or parking right at the market for market shoppers to grab and go.

Picks of the Week:

Whole Foods Community Giving Day

On Thursday, October 18th, Whole Foods will be donating 5% of their profits from the Arabella Station, Broad Street and Veterans locations to Market Umbrella! So if you shop there regularly, please try to make your trip on Thursday. Market Umbrella is a non-profit and the many fresh food incentive and kids programs we offer, as well as market operations depend on this type of generosity. Thank you Whole Foods for thinking of us and thank you in advance to everyone who shops any of these three locations on Thursday!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special:

Frencheeze Food Truck

Say cheese! Frencheeze Food Truck is slinging the cheese as the Green Plate Special and they’re sure to put a smile on your face. Chef Jason King and his companion Boots are avid market shoppers and prioritize fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. Enjoy a grilled cheese for breakfast, lunch or both Tuesdays in October at 200 Broadway Street from 9-1pm!

Recipe of the Week:

Sauteed Baby Bok Choy

This recipe for sauteed baby bok choy by Weelicious is simple and will highlight the fresh flavor of these savory greens. Try them in stir fry or as an easy side. Pick up your ’choy at Veggi Farmers Co-op or at Two Dog Farms who return tomorrow, or substitute other leafy greens at any
of our markets from Monica’s Okra World, Indian Springs Growers Association, River Queen Greens, and more.
What’s your favorite dish to make after visiting the Crescent City Farmers Market? Share your recipes with us on Instagram or Facebook or even Twitter and it might be featured in our weekly newsletter!
