Action Alert: Ask your Senator to support the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA)
Dear Catherine,
The midterm elections have passed and there are big changes coming to Congress in January, but there is still work to be done before then. The Cancer Support Community works as part of the Patient Quality of Life Coalition to advance the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA).
PCHETA would expand patient access to palliative care services. The bill has strong bi-partisan support in the U.S. Senate and passed the U.S. House of Representatives on July 23, 2018 as H.R. 1676.
The goal of palliative care is to improve patient quality of life, prevent and relieve suffering, and improve communication with patients who have serious or chronic health conditions. Palliative Care is appropriate at any stage of a serious illness, and is a team-based approach that involves doctors, nurses, social workers, and other specialists to provide an extra layer of support for patients and their family members alongside curative treatments.
We need you to ask your Senators to join their colleagues as co-sponsors in support of PCHETA! Send a letter to your Senator today and help us move the needle to expand patient access to palliative care and improve the quality of life for patients and their families!
