Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is the time of year when we gather with family and loved ones and reflect on what we’re thankful for. Oh, and of course, we eat.
You can find everything you need for your feast at the market: sweet potatoes for roasting, greens for sauteeing, green beans for casseroling, cornmeal for dressing, mirlitons for stuffing, citrus for cranberry sauce zesting, pecans for pie-ing, or pre-made pies for pie-ing.
Come by the Uptown Market tomorrow to get all you need and more for Thanksgiving. Need some recipes to impress? Poppy Tooker will be there from 9-11am selling and signing copies of her newest book, Pascal’s Manale Cookbook, as well as our beloved Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook. We will also have guest vendor Pickled Nola from the Rivertown Market in attendance for our new favorite crunchy, briny snacks! And if you’re worried about long lines and vendors running out of what you need, now is a great time to check out our new app. Order ahead and rest easy knowing your goodies will be waiting for you when you get there.
Just a reminder, our Thursday, Mid-City market will be closed this Thursday - November, 22nd so that our staff and vendors can enjoy time with their families and a break from the field. Instead, please join us at the market on Saturday, November 24th as we celebrate small business Saturday. As you may know, all of our vendors are from ‘round these parts - within 200 miles! Your support and patronage keep our market going strong and promotes the local economy. So grab a cup of coffee, restock your fridge, and say hello to your local farmer, who’s a business person, too!

T Shirt Design Contest - Last Day to Vote!
It’s time for a new look, and we need your help! Today is your last chance to vote on your favorite design to be printed on our next CCFM T shirt!
We’ve got a great round up of designs including all of our favorite veggie puns, music references, and NOLA vibes. We’ll announce the design that receives the most votes – the winner – on Wednesday, so get your votes in and tell your friends. The winner will receive fame and glory, and a t shirt when it’s printed. The new design will hit the press before the year is up and be available in January, 2019.

Get Ya Pies Y’all
Thanksgiving is just days away and the Crescent City Farmers Market has got your pie covered. Blue Ribbon Pies will be at the Uptown Market tomorrow, Tuesday 11/20 for pie pickup. Call Mrs. Chauvin at

(985) 345-7515 to pre-order your pie - she’ll take orders throughout today. As always, Mrs. Chauvin will have all of her regular flavors as well as her seasonal mincemeat and apple cranberry pies. Baking 504 will also have pies available in the following flavors: German apple, apple cranberry, bourbon pecan, chocolate meringue, cherry, and blueberry lemon.
Pop-up Market on Wednesday
As part of our Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programming, we are planning a pop-up farmers market outside of the Edna Pilsbury WIC Clinic and Crescent City Pharmacy this Wednesday, November 21st from 9am-12pm. If you're not familiar with the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP), it is intended to bring fresh food incentive benefits to WIC recipients and senior citizens by encouraging purchases from local farmers. In Orleans parish, WIC redemption of these vouchers has historically been very low, which impacts the funding for them in following years (typically lowering both the value of the booklet and the number of booklets that will be distributed in our parish).
We are trying to turn that around by bringing the market to the WIC clinic where the vouchers are distributed for added convenience. Next week we'll host the Indian Springs Growers Association (a co-op representing 30+ farmers) and L'Hoste Citrus for a full selection of fruits and vegetables on offer. While we hope to make it easier for WIC recipients to redeem their FMNP vouchers for produce, the event is open to the public so anyone can shop, and we will be bringing our tokens with us, so we can do Market Match (where we double SNAP dollars up to $20) as well as credit card transactions. So come one and all and join us for your last opportunity to pick up fresh, local groceries before the cooking marathon begins!

Vendor of the Week:
Pickled Nola
We’re so excited about our tangy new vendor, Pickled Nola! After growing a surplus of cucumbers one summer, they discovered their knack for pickling, and have been honing it since then. Jeremy and Kim, both teachers, brought their new hobby to his school and their recipes eventually became so popular that they began to sell to a local corner store on the West Bank. Their operation has since grown, and they now sell all sorts of pickled goodies-- cauliflower, green beans, and jalapenos to name a few. They are a regular vendor at our Rivertown market on Saturdays, and for this Thanksgiving week they’ll be joining us Uptown on Tuesday as well. Charcuterie boards, rejoice!

If you’ve shopped at the Crescent City Farmers Market, you know Chef Jason Goodenough. You know, the guy New Orleans Magazine named Chef of the Year 2017? Yup. Green Plate Special fans, we’re all in for a treat - Carrollton Market, will be serving it up as the Green Plate Special for the month of November! Chef Goodenough’s commitment to local sourcing brings him to the frontlines of the New Orleans food scene each week at the farmers market and Carrollton Market is a phenomenal show of talent, finesse, and appreciation for the food grown, raised and caught by our very own CCFM vendors. We are happy to see him back at the GPS tent and looking forward to what he, and guest chef the Thali Llama, have in store for us! |

Honey-Glazed Spiced Carrots
Carrots are arriving at the market just in time to make to your holiday feast. This recipe from Southern Living is one of our favorites, anytime of the year. Pick up your carrots and your favorite bottle of honey from the market tomorrow and you are good to go for Thanksgiving!
