News from the Cancer Support Community

Dear Friends,
We hope your 2019 is off to a great start! At the Cancer Support Community, we are excited to share a wealth of new materials for patients and their loved ones, including our first-ever collection of recipes for healthy eating for cancer survivors and our latest recipes for those living with cancer.
January also saw the launch of CSC's newest specialty registry for people living with acute myeloid leukemia and their caregivers. CSC also presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's Gastrointenstinal Cancers Symposium in San Francisco.
See below to learn more about these resources and feel free to forward to your friends and loved ones.
In Appreciation,
The Cancer Support Community Team

New Study Focuses on Unique Needs of Acute Myeloid Leukemia Patients

This week we launched a unique research study focused on individuals diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow which accounts for approximately 19,520 new cases of cancer each year.
As Linda House, president of CSC, said, "This new study gives us the opportunity to learn more from AML patients about the full spectrum of their experience and allows us to address their concerns through our support services, educational materials, and by informing public policy."
Is AML part of your experience? We want to hear from you: https://www.cancerexperienceregistry.org/

Put in your earbuds - we have two episodes to add to your playlist

The first is a look at the highly acclaimed film "Phil's Camino." The film tells the powerful and inspiring story of Phil Volker, who is living with stage 4 cancer and dreams of walking the Camino de Santiago - a 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain: bit.ly/2UsYk2H
The second is about advances in acute myeloid leukemia that features an interview with Dr. Jessica Altman, Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern Medicine: bit.ly/2CUQisi .

Shared Decision Making and Value-Based Cancer Care Research

The United States health care system has been evolving at a rapid pace with attempts to control costs while also improving outcomes for patients. Cancer care is at the center of these debates with 15.5 million cancer survivors and per person treatment costs exceeding all other diseases.
Policy and decision makers are shifting from a volume-based system to value-based care in an effort to ensure that patients are receiving high-quality care at the lowest possible price. Read our latest take on this trend.

Digital Services Sees Major Growth

Last year MyLifeLine, a free service of the Cancer Support Community that enables patients and their loved ones to create online support communities, served more than twice as many cancer patients in 2018 as the site did in 2017.
