Representatives from the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) will provide information sessions and answer questions about their mentoring, employment readiness, and enrichment services. For ages 16 - 24.

They will also have applications for individuals who want to apply.

Introduction to Fiction Writing with Author Stephen Rea

Students will learn the basics of fiction writing with local award-winning author Stephen Rea, a native of Belfast, Ireland.

All levels of writers are welcome to this class, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned writer looking for tips on how to expand and improve your skills. For ages 18 & over.

Author Night: Jim Thornton - "New Orleans Trumpet: A Down-Home Conservatory Method"

Algiers Point resident Jim Thornton will discuss his new trumpet method that has been featured in DownBeat and JazzTimes.

Jim and his Perdido Jazz Band will demonstrate the nuts and bolts of how traditional jazz works using the method. The book, published by Sher Music Co., will be available at the event.

Cervical Health 101: What You Need to Know About Cervical Cancer Prevention

Ever wondered what exactly a cervix is? Or what it has to do with one of the world’s most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs)?

The Library's Health Literacy Educator, Dana Wilkosz, will discuss anatomy, HPV and its connection to cervical cancer, getting screened, and finding reliable information online about cervical health. Women and men of all ages welcome.

Museum Partner Pass Program Expands to Include the New Orleans Museum of Art

The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA), New Orleans’ oldest fine arts institution, is now the newest member of the Library’s Museum Partner Pass Program. The NOMA pass provides free access to the Museum and its public programs for two adults and children or grandchildren and is available for check out at each of our 15 Library locations.
