Where Can I Find CCFM in 2019?

It’s been quite a couple of weeks! Between the new markets that started at Bucktown Harbor (Fridays from 3-7pm) on January 4th, and Ochsner (Wednesdays from 3-7pm) on the 9th, to the relocation of our French Market location to the Rusty Rainbow bridge in the Bywater also on the 9th, we have been busy supporting local growers and expanding fresh food access throughout New Orleans and Jefferson Parish! A great thanks to everyone who has come out and helped spread the word about new markets. CCFM markets now provide opportunities for over 80 local food producers! Check out a complete list of our market days, locations and times at the bottom of this email.
Don’t forget, all of our fresh food incentive programs like Market Match where we double SNAP dollars spent at market up to $20 per day, are active at all seven of our new locations. And Tuesday’s Uptown market, Thursday’s Mid-City market, and Saturday’s CBD and Rivertown markets are unchanged, and open weekly, rain or shine.
This process is an evolution, and we’re still working to bring on new vendors. If there are things you’d like to see at any given location, please let us know!

Market Mommas Club

Market Umbrella runs a program called Market Mommas Club to help connect breastfeeding moms with support groups in the community, as well as offer them tokens to spend at our markets on fresh, local food each month. The program aims to incentivize breastfeeding and give moms additional support to feed themselves and their families healthy food. We are still enrolling participants for this program, so if you or someone you know is breastfeeding and receives Medicaid or WIC benefits, give us a call at (504) 517-2747! Help River Queen Greens get $10,000!

CCFM vendor River Queen Greens, an urban farm located in the Bywater, has applied for a grant for caterpillar tunnels from Cultivating Change, a grant program that supports local farms with funds to upgrade operations, invest in food safety, and implement sustainable technology. The winners will receive $10,000 and are determined based on the number of votes they receive over the one month voting period. That means they need your help! Visit this website and vote for them every day for the month of January! Vote early and often, and tell your friends to do it too! Help us support our first Certified Naturally Grown vendor in their efforts to expand production of sustainably grown produce grown without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. They’re currently in 7th place and the top 5 get funding. Let’s help get them there!

Faust Farms

New markets mean new vendors! Welcome Faust Farms to the Crescent City Farmers Market! Faust Farms is a 2nd generation family owned business, established in 1985. The Faust Family grows on 60 acres of farmland located in Amite and Independence, LA. In addition to seasonal veggies, Brandon Faust is bringing hydroponic lettuce and strawberries to market! Stop by and say hello on Wednesdays at the Ochsner market in front of the Rehabilitation Center at 2614 Jefferson Highway!

Welcome back friends of the market - the pop-up ROOTs! This duo will be serving market inspired goods as our GPS throughout the month of January. Their food is local, healthy, all made from scratch often at market from produce purchased that morning, and delicious. One-pan Farro with Tomatoes

This one-pan farro with tomatoes recipe is SO easy and SO delicious, and makes a perfect healthy weeknight dinner. It is easily adaptable, too, so feel free to add whatever veggies or proteins you like. You might want to double the recipe-- the leftovers are just as good for lunch the next day. Grab a pint or two of colorful hydroponically-grown tomatoes from Tomotts or Cajun Growers or high tunnel grown tomatoes from Poche Family Farm and give it a try.
