Shared spiritual traditions of Haiti and New Orleans is the topic of panel discussion on February 20
 
In conjunction with the exhibition of Vodou flags in Bondye: Above and Beyond, the cultural-exchange association HaitiaNOLA will lead a panel discussion on Wednesday, February 20, at 5 pm about shared spiritual and cultural practices between Haiti and New Orleans that are rooted in West Africa. The event will open with drumming by a group of Haitian musician and conclude with drumming by a New Orleanian. Preceding the panel discussion, exhibition co-curator Nic Aziz will lead a small talk about the exhibition at 4:30 pm.
Summer Art Camps open for enrollment 

Enrollment in full-day Summer Art Camps, which will run in eight weeklong sessions from June 3 to August 2 (excluding the week of July 4), is now open to both NOMA members ($300 per week) and nonmembers ($400 per week). Choose from visual or performing art camps for age groups 5-7 and 8-10. 
Join a talk or tour 

Small Talks are 10- to 15-minute discussions focused on a single object or small range of objects within the permanent collection or special exhibitions. View the full list of talks and tours for the week ahead.
 
Noontime Talks are casual conversations scheduled at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. Curator Russell Lord will discuss selections from Past Present Future: Building Photography at the New Orleans Museum of Art on Wednesday, February 20. Curator Vanessa Schmid will discuss a recent acquisition, Léopold Burthe's Angelique, onWednesday, February 27
 
Docent-guided tours are offered daily at 1 pm. Tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are given on Saturdays and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. Call 504.658.4153 to verify. 
NOMA Book Club to discuss biography of prominent art collectors Dominique and John de Menil

Join fellow book lovers for monthly discussions about fiction and nonfiction books related to art, artists, art museums, NOMA's collections and exhibitions. 
 
The NOMA Book Club's selection for February is Double Vision: The Unerring Eye of Art World Avatars Dominique and John de Menil by William Middleton. This Franco-American couple became one of greatest cultural forces of the twentieth century through the creation of groundbreaking exhibitions of art, investment in art scholarship, and the creation of innovative, world-renowned galleries and museums in their chosen home of Houston, Texas.  
 
Group discussion about the book will be held in the Felix J. Dreyfous Library on NOMA's ground floor on Thursday, February 21, from 12 - 1 pmContact NOMA Librarian Sheila Cork for more information and to reserve space for Book Club sessions at scork@noma.org or 504.658.4117.
NOMA is for kids! 

Studio KIDS! returns with a range of activities that allow children ages 5 to 10 to get creative in an art making class. Each session features different media under the instruction of skilled teaching artists. Studio KIDS! will be held on the following Saturday mornings from 10 to 11:30 am:
  • March 9 - Pastel Drawing: Vibrant Blooms
  • March 16 - Acrylic Painting: Color Me Happy
  • April 6 - Personal Pendant
Advance registration required: $25 per class NOMA members | $30 nonmembers. Enrollment is now available online
Wellness Classes among the artworks 

NOMA, in collaboration with East Jefferson Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.

Yoga in the Sculpture Garden: Saturday, February 23, 8 - 9 am

Tai Chi/Chi Kung: Monday, February 25, 6 - 7 pm

Classes are $5; FREE for NOMA members and East Jefferson Wellness Center members. To register, call East Jefferson Healthfinder at 504.456.5000.

The retrospective Keith Sonnier: Until Today will include many of the artist's neon works.
In the weeks ahead

There will be no Friday Nights at NOMA for February 22 or March 1 and 8. 

Friday, March 15: A new exhibition, Keith Sonnier: Until Today, opens. This survey of the Louisiana-born conceptual artist features many sculptural works made of neon.
