Wafaa Bilal bridges art with literature, history, and charity in a work on view in Bodies of Knowledge exhibition
Artist Wafaa Bilal, among the eleven artists represented in Bodies of Knowledge, will be on site for a Gallery Talk on Wednesday, July 17, at 12 pm, followed by an activation through 3 pm. His installation, titled 168:01, allows visitors to take a blank white book in exchange for a published work that will ultimately restock a destroyed university library in Baghdad, Iraq. Bilal will also deliver a Gallery Talk during Friday Nights at NOMA on July 19 at 6:30 pm. Friday Nights at NOMA includes Artful Palate cooking demo and music by Keiko and Mateo
In addition to a lecture by Wafaa Bilal, Friday Nights at NOMA on July 19 from 5 - 9 pm will include an Artful Palate cooking demonstration at 6 pm in Café NOMA by Knut Mjelde, sous chef from Ralph's on the Park, who will prepare Spanish-style octopus. Enjoy live music in the Great Hall from 5:30 - 8:30 pm by Keiko and Mateo, a duo who will perform a wide repertoire of international music from Japan, France, Jamaica, Cuba, and New Orleans. The ever-popular Art on the Spot family activity table will be set up from 5 to 8 pm. All galleries and exhibitions, Café NOMA, and the Museum Shop will be open until 9 pm.

Mahmoud Chouki collaborates with regional musicians in an ongoing series blending East-West music styles
Presented as part of the Bodies of Knowledge exhibition, musician Mahmoud Chouki will join trumpeter Steve Lands in performance on Wednesday, July 17, from 3 to 5 pm as part of an East-West improvisational music series titled Safar (Arabic for "to travel").

Taylor Scholars Teen Day welcomes educators and students for a free, activity-filled Saturday
Taylor Scholars Teen Day on Saturday, July 20, honors Louisiana educators and students who qualify as Taylor Scholars with free admission and a daylong schedule of teen and family-oriented events, including tours of the museum and Besthoff Sculpture Garden by NOMA's Teen Squad, food trucks, art-making stations, and a DJ in the Great Hall.
Museum admission is free for visitors age 13-19 year-round with the Teen Pass, courtesy of The Helis Foundation.

August is Museum Month with free entry to partnering museums for NOMA members
August is New Orleans Museum Month, a collaboration among cultural institutions of all sizes across the metro area. NOMA members have the opportunity to visit all partnering museums FREE OF CHARGE for the entire month. Videos by Iranian-exile artist Shirin Neshat screened every Wednesday
Three videos by Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat will be screened on continuous loop from 10 am to 1 pm every Wednesday through October 9 (excluding July 17 and 31) in Stern Auditorium as part of the Bodies of Knowledge exhibition. Titled Turbulent, Rapture, and Fervor, the short films capture the dichotomies of modern life in Iran and implications of the 1979 Islamic revolution upon women. Sign up now for remaining Summer Art Camps
Summer Art Camps are now underway, and a few spaces remain in the weeks come. Check availability and enroll now in the remaining two weeklong sessions through August 2:
- July 22 - 26: "Art in the Big Easy" for ages 8 - 10
- July 29 - August 2: "Inspired by Africa" for ages 8 - 10
The fee is $300 per week for NOMA members | $400 per week for nonmembers.

Attend a talk, tour, gallery activation, or concert
Guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are given on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. Call 504.658.4153 to verify.
Curatorial Fellow Allison Young will lead visitors through the exhibition Bodies of Knowledge on Wednesday, July 24 at 12 pm.
On Wednesday, July 24, at 3 pm, musicians from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts will activate Menon Bellet's Brèves braises, an installation in Bodies of Knowledge consisting of a wall covered in the charred remains of burned paper that gradually fall from vibrations and movement.
Photographer Abdul Aziz will discuss themes found in You Are Here: A Brief History of Photography and Place on Wednesday, July 24, at 3:30 pm.

Free admission for military families through Labor Day
The New Orleans Museum of Art is pleased to once again participate in Blue Star Museums, a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America.
Each summer since 2010, Blue Star Museums have offered free admission to the nation's active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day (Monday, September 2). More than 2,000 museums across America are participating in Blue Star Museums.

Wellness Classes among the artworks
NOMA, in collaboration with East Jefferson Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.

Tai Chi/Chi Kung: Monday, July 22, 6 - 7 pm

In the weeks ahead
Friday, July 26, 5 - 9 pm: Friday Nights at NOMA features Mahmoud Chouki in collaboration with jazz pianist Oscar Rossignoli for a Safar improvisational concert. Café NOMA will also continue its Artful Palate cooking series.
The evening will also feature two free screenings of Solange Knowles's new film When I Get Home. The screenings are sold out. Seating is limited in Stern Auditorium. Attendees who have RSVPed must be seated 10 minutes prior to the screenings or unclaimed seats will be given to those in a standby line that will form near NOMA's entrance. Please be seated by 6:20 for the 6:30 pm screening, and 7:35 for the 7:45 pm performance.
