Friday Nights at NOMA includes screening of Shirin Neshat film, cooking demo, and debut of student-made silent films
Friday Nights at NOMA on August 2, from 5 to 9 pm, will include a debut of films created by New Orleans metro high school students at 5 pm, produced in collaboration with NOVAC and Sundance Film Festival award-winning filmmaker Garrett Bradley, who is among the artists represented in the exhibition Bodies of Knowledge. Café NOMA's Artful Palate cooking series continues at 6 pm with Chef Chris Fite preparing crepes de Norton. Musician Joy Clark will perform in the Great Hall from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Looking for Oum Kulthum (2017) follows an Iranian female filmmaker living in exile who seeks to document the life of a famous female singer of the Arab world. As a movie within a movie, both women find themselves confronting struggles and sacrifices in a conservative, male-dominated culture.

August is Museum Month with free entry to partnering museums for NOMA members
August is New Orleans Museum Month, a collaboration among cultural institutions of all sizes across the metro area. NOMA members have the opportunity to visit all partnering museums FREE OF CHARGE for the entire month. Videos by Iranian-exile artist Shirin Neshat screened every Wednesday
Three videos by Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat will be screened on continuous loop from 10 am to 1 pm every Wednesday through October 9 (excluding July 31) in Stern Auditorium as part of the Bodies of Knowledge exhibition. Titled Turbulent, Rapture, and Fervor, the short films capture the dichotomies of modern life in Iran and implications of the 1979 Islamic revolution upon women. Attend a talk or tour
Guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are given on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. Call 504.658.4153 to verify.
Curatorial Fellow Brian Piper will discuss highlighted photographs on view in
on Wednesday, August 7 at 3 pm. The exhibition closes on Sunday, August 11.

Free admission for military families through Labor Day
The New Orleans Museum of Art is pleased to once again participate in Blue Star Museums, a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America.
Each summer since 2010, Blue Star Museums have offered free admission to the nation's active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day (Monday, September 2). More than 2,000 museums across America are participating in Blue Star Museums.

From August 1 through 31, when the temperature is confirmed at 95 degrees or higher by meteorologist David Bernard on FOX8 News, admission to NOMA will be free the following day for Louisiana residents courtesy of The Helis Foundation.

Wellness Classes among the artworks
NOMA, in collaboration with East Jefferson Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.

In the weeks ahead
Friday, August 9, 5 to 9 pm: Rescheduled after a weather delay, French Fête returns with Parisian cabaret music by Susanne Ortner and Ambiance Française, a screening of the movie Haute Cuisine, food trucks, a tour of works by Edgar Degas, and an Artful Palate cooking demonstration in Café NOMA. Photographer Jonathan Traviesa will discuss his work and themes in the exhibition You Are Here: A Brief History of Photography and Place.
Friday, August 16, 5 to 9 pm: Friday Nights at NOMA will include a screening at 6:30 pm of Shirin Neshat's feature-length film Women Without Men, set in Tehran in 1953 during the American-backed coup that restored the Shah of Iran to power.
Saturday, August 17, 3 pm: The French science-fiction film La Jetée (1962) will be introduced by artist Manon Bellet, her pick for an ongoing Artist's Choice Film Series.
