Videos by Iranian exile artist Shirin Neshat will be screened every Wednesday, starting July 3
Three videos by Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat will be screened on continuous loop from 10 am to 1 pm every Wednesday from July 3 through October 9 (excluding July 17 and 31) in Stern Auditorium as part of the Bodies of Knowledge exhibition. Titled Turbulent, Rapture, and Fervor, the short films capture the dichotomies of modern life in Iran and implications of the 1979 Islamic revolution upon women. Sign up now for remaining Summer Art Camps
Summer Art Camps are now underway, and a few spaces remain in the weeks come. Check availability and enroll now in the remaining four weeklong sessions through August 2:
- July 8 - 12: "Art and Nature" for ages 5-7
- July 15 - 19: "Puppet Performance" for ages 5 - 7
- July 22 - 26: "Art in the Big Easy" for ages 8 - 10
- July 29 - August 2: "Inspired by Africa" for ages 8 - 10
The fee is $300 per week for NOMA members | $400 per week for nonmembers.

Baby Artsplay features interactive Saturday morning workshops for newborns/infants and 3-4-year-olds
Instill a love of art at a young age through a guided, hands-on gallery experience. With support from The Helis Foundation, teaching artists from Young Audiences Wolf Trap will provide a free six-part workshop series on Saturday mornings designed to instruct caregivers on how to use the arts at home to promote early learning. Workshop 6 concludes the series on Saturday, July 13, for children ages 0-3 from 10:30 to 11 am, followed by a workshop for 3-4-year-olds from 11 to 11:30 am. Join a talk or tour
Guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are given on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. Call 504.658.4153 to verify.
Curator Mel Buchanan will discuss NOMA's decorative arts collection on Wednesday, July 3, at 3 pm.

Free admission for military families through Labor Day
The New Orleans Museum of Art is pleased to once again participate in BlueStar Museums, a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, BlueStar Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America.
Each summer since 2010, Blue Star Museums have offered free admission to the nation's active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day (Monday, September 2). More than 2,000 museums across America are participating in Blue Star Museums.

Voting is now open for the 2019 "Best of New Orleans" poll in the alt-weekly newspaper Gambit. Type in New Orleans Museum of Art under the Best Museum category in the Local Life section at this link. The poll is open through July 31.

Wellness Classes among the artworks
NOMA, in collaboration with East Jefferson Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.

Tai Chi/Chi Kung: Monday, July 8, 6 - 7 pm

In the weeks ahead
Friday, July 12, 5 - 9 pm: Friday Nights at NOMA takes on a Gallic theme with
French Fête, featuring music by Susanne Ortner's Ambiance Française, a cooking demonstration by Café NOMA's culinary curator Chris Montero, a movie, puppet show, and tours of the French collection, along with other programming for visitors of all ages.
Saturday, July 13, 2 pm: As part of an ongoing Artist's Choice Film Series in conjunction with Bodies of Knowledge, artist Garrett Bradley will introduce Sidewalk Stories, a largely silent movie from 1989 that tells the story of a young African American man raising an orphaned girl after her father is murdered. The film is a modern adaptation of Charlie Chaplin's The Little Tramp.
Friday, July 19, 5 - 9 pm: Iraqi artist Wafaa Bilal will deliver a lecture during Friday Nights at NOMA about his interactive installation 168:01, on view in Bodies of Knowledge, which invites visitors to stock an austere white bookshelf of blank books with published works that will replenish a destroyed university library in Baghdad.
