Friday Nights at NOMA: Safar music series, Café NOMA cooking demo, and tours of new exhibitions
Musician Mahmoud Chouki continues his Safar music series, blending Eastern and Western music traditions, during a collaboration with French vocalist Cyrille Aimee and jazz saxophonist Ricardo Pascal as part of Friday Nights at NOMA on August 23. Free admission and full day of programs for visitors of all ages at Family Festival: Play It Cool
Join us for an indoor "Play It Cool" Family Festival with free admission and programs for visitors of all ages throughout NOMA's galleries on Saturday, August 24, from 10 am to 3 pm. Activities will include art-making stations, storytime sessions, kid-oriented tours, and snoballs.

Studio KIDS! fall workshops open for enrollment
This fall Studio KIDS! presents eight workshops for children ages 5 to 10 who want to get creative and learn art-making techniques inspired by works at NOMA and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. The classes are held Saturday mornings from 10 am to 12 pm; cost per class: $25 members | $30 nonmembers. For the first class, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, participants will create a "quilted" square in mixed media, in conjunction with the exhibition The Quilts of Gee's Bend. 'Sidewalk Stories,' inspired by Charlie Chaplin's 'The Tramp,' screens Saturday in Artist's Choice Film Series
As part of an ongoing Artist's Choice Film Series in conjunction with Bodies of Knowledge, on Saturday, August 24, at 3 pm (following the Family Festival), artist Garrett Bradley will introduce Sidewalk Stories, a largely silent movie from 1989 that tells the story of a young African American man raising an orphaned girl after her father is murdered. The film is a modern adaptation of Charlie Chaplin's The Little Tramp. (Rated R | 1 hour, 37 minutes | Watch the trailer below)

From August 1 through 31, when the temperature is confirmed at 95 degrees or higher by meteorologist David Bernard on FOX8 News, admission to NOMA will be free the following day for Louisiana residents courtesy of The Helis Foundation.

Throughout the month of August, when temperatures reach 95 degrees or higher, the next day's admission to NOMA will be free for Louisiana residents courtesy of The Helis Foundation's fourth annual Art & AC program.Look for special giveaways of sunglasses, hand fans, and water bottles. August is Museum Month with free entry to partnering museums for NOMA members
August is New Orleans Museum Month, a collaboration among cultural institutions of all sizes across the metro area. NOMA members have the opportunity to visit all partnering museums FREE OF CHARGE for the entire month. Videos by Iranian-exile artist Shirin Neshat screened every Wednesday through October 9
Three videos by Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat will be screened on continuous loop from 10 am to 1 pm every Wednesday through October 9 (excluding July 31) in Stern Auditorium as part of the Bodies of Knowledge exhibition. Titled Turbulent, Rapture, and Fervor, the short films capture the dichotomies of modern life in Iran and implications of the 1979 Islamic revolution upon women. Buy tickets or sponsorships for LOVE in the Garden
Tickets and sponsorships are now on sale for LOVE in the Garden, NOMA's annual outdoor fundraiser in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden on Friday, September 27, from 6:30 to midnight. Guests will enjoy food from more than 60 of New Orleans' finest restaurants and craft cocktails from competitive bartenders, along with music and dancing beneath the moss-draped oaks.

Attend a talk, tour, gallery activation, or concert
Guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm. Tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are given on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. Call 504.658.4153 to verify.
Wednesday, August 28, 12 pm: Curator Mel Buchanan will discuss The Quilts of Gee's Bend in the Decorative Arts Galleries.
Wedneday, August 28, 1 - 3 pm: A Gallery Activation of Wafaa Bilal's installation 168:01 encourages NOMA visitors to take a blank book in exchange for a published book, for sale in the NOMA Shop, that will be shipped to a university in Baghdad, Iraq, at the close of the exhibition. Free admission for military families through Labor Day
The New Orleans Museum of Art is pleased to once again participate in Blue Star Museums, a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America.
Each summer since 2010, Blue Star Museums have offered free admission to the nation's active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day (Monday, September 2). More than 2,000 museums across America are participating in Blue Star Museums.

NOMA, in collaboration with East Jefferson Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.

Monday, September 2: NOMA and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden will be open for special Labor Day holiday hours from noon to 5 pm.
Friday, September 6, 5 - 9 pm: Friday Nights at NOMA will feature selections of the opera Carmen by Opera Nouvelle in advance of a full production by the New Orleans Opera Association in October.
