Advocacy Request from the American Cancer Society

Cathy,

I’m not angry. I’m energized.

Our experts reviewed the budget proposal recently passed by Congress and it did nothing to address the millions of worldwide deaths from cervical cancer.

Thanks to your work, we had convinced the U.S. House of Representatives, for the first time ever, to publicly recognize the need to address this devastating yet solvable problem.

However, the U.S. Senate did not take a similar step and they succeeded in keeping it out of the final agreement.

As you know, 90% of all women who die from cervical cancer next year will be from low and middle-income countries. Why? Because women and girls there don’t have reliable access to a lifesaving vaccine and simple screening and treatment tools.

As we look ahead to 2020, one thing is very clear - we need to be bigger and louder on this issue.

Cathy, I’m sure you know three people - friends, family, colleagues - you could ask to sign our pledge to take action on this issue next year. It will take them less than a minute to do.

We need to be reaching more people - volunteers just like you - if we’re going to be successful in ending all deaths from cervical cancer. Whether through email, Facebook or some other way, please ask three people you know to sign the pledge.

Thank you for all of your actions this year. While progress can be slow, I know our work will one day have a major impact on saving millions of women’s lives from this very preventable disease.

Thank you,

Brittany Larson
Senior Campaign Manager
