THE FARMERS MARKET IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
We will be maintaining our regular schedule for each of our six weekly markets for the foreseeable future and as usual, the vendor lineup can be found on our website. While we wait and see how this situation develops and adjust as needed, we welcome customers to come shop, stock up on healthful foods, and continue to support our local vendors. Remember:
- Know your farmer – you will see the person(s) who grew or produced your food. You can see they are healthy and feel more comfortable with the foods you are feeding your family.
- Food in a farmers market is not part of the supply chain that serves other food venues. The limited chain means fewer people handled the food and reduces the risk of contamination.
- Farmers markets are outdoor events – fresh air is healthy and so is the food at farmers markets.
- Maintain a healthy diet of fresh, locally grown foods. A healthy body is better able to resist and fight disease.
Here are some of the precautions we are taking at markets:
- Reviewing and reinforcing safe food handling practices with vendors
- Making hand sanitizer readily available
- Requiring staff and vendors to stay home if sick
- Encouraging social distancing
- Requiring staff to use gloves during token transactions
- Reminding staff and vendors of frequent hand washing and provision of proper hand washing guidance
- We have encouraged our vendors to accept payment forms such as Apple Pay or Venmo that limit the handling/transaction of cash and tokens. Make sure to ask if the vendor you are purchasing from can accept hands-free payment options
We'll have signs at market to remind about these simple actions everyone can take, as well as additional hand sanitizing stations at each of our markets.
How the markets will look different:
- Hand sanitizer will be available at the welcome tent, at sanitizing stations in the market, and at vendor stands
- Vendors will not have samples available.
- There will be no beverages served at any welcome tent.
- We will not be setting up public seating areas
- Where possible, produce and other items will be pre-packaged
With all this said, we hope to see you at market!
