New Orleans Public Library locations may be temporarily closed to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community, but that does not mean that the Library is not here for you. Virtually visit us from any place, at any time with your Library card and our e-resources.

HeritageQuest Online 

A database that provides genealogical and historical sources for more than 60 countries, with coverage dating back as early as the 1700s. The collection consists of U.S. Federal Censuses, Revolutionary War records, Freedman’s Bank Records, Genealogy and local history books, Social Security Death Index, and more. Available for use in the Library or from home.

Librarians are available to assist you by phone and online. To speak with a Librarian, call 504-383-4682 Mondays - Thursdays from 9am - 7pm or Fridays from 9am - 5pm; or, submit a request by clicking on the green Ask A Librarian button at the very top of our website.

As a Reminder:

  • Please keep all checked out materials until we reopen - all book drop boxes are locked.
  • All due dates and late fees are suspended during the closure.
  • Librarians are available to assist you online and by phone. Visit ask.nolalibrary.org for more information.
  • Orleans Parish residents without a Library account can sign up for a temporary one at getacard.nolalibrary.org.
