Dear New Orleans, The City of New Orleans has created a new COVID-19 meal assistance program, funded by FEMA, to help people who are not receiving other federal food assistance. The program begins in early July, and offers two meals a day (lunch and dinner) to eligible Orleans Parish residents. Homebound residents who qualify will receive meal deliveries. Pick-up locations will also be available. The program will run for 30 days. To sign up, New Orleans residents should call 3-1-1 or 504-658-2299. Callers will be asked several simple questions to determine eligibility. No documentation or ID is required is the registration process. Eligible residents include people in the following categories who are not currently receiving another form of federal food assistance*: - Seniors (65 years and above)
- Adults with high-risk health conditions & special medical needs
- Individuals who test positive for COVID-19, or who have been exposed and require isolation or quarantine
- Homeless residents
- Children under 18 years old
*Per FEMA rules, federal food assistance programs that will disqualify residents include SNAP, Meals on Wheels, NOLA Public School Meal Program, and State-sponsored homeless hotel services that are providing federally funded meal services. For those who are not eligible for this new program, please call 211 for more information on ongoing food pantries and other meal assistance programs. See below for a graphic with more information. Please share this information with members of your community who may be eligible individuals. If you are in need of meal assistance and qualify for this program, please register as soon as possible to get the full benefit of the program.
