This Week at the New Orleans Museum of Art ("NOMA")

MARCH 31, 2021

Detail: Portrait of Marie Antoinette

A CLOSE LOOK

Known as a fashion icon to European courts, Marie Antoinette was Queen of France from 1774 until the King and Queen's execution by guillotine during the French Revolution. Presented in partnership with Google Arts & Culture, this online exhibit looks closely at NOMA's Portrait of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France by Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun.

OBJECT LESSON

In some African societies, the birth and dedication of a child is incomplete without the use of art. Such objects are created to convey parenting as a sense of continuity.

NOMA is more committed than ever to connecting our community through art and culture. Please consider making a monthly gift to NOMA’s Renewal and Recovery Fund of $10, $20, or $35, to be a treasured supporter of YOUR museum. Challenges still lie ahead but we are optimistic that with your continued support, we can continue our recovery. Make an online donation.
