Register Here Thursday, May 20 from 4pm - 5:30pm Virtual Creative Writing WorkshopWriters will create, share, and critique original work while learning to develop their own voice and style via Zoom. Novice and experienced writers are welcome. Registration required. This program is led by Kathleen Balma, a Pushcart Prize-winning poet, Fulbright fellow, and librarian at New Orleans Public Library. Email her at kbalma@nolalibrary.org to register and to get the Zoom meeting information. Interested persons only need to register once to attend any/all events in this series. All genres are welcome. Participants may submit poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or a short excerpt from a play/screenplay or novel. Katy will use standard workshop/peer critique norms and etiquette, which will be reviewed briefly at the beginning of each workshop. Etiquette and norms are as follows: - Treat everyone with civility and respect.
- Be mindful of what you are making visible to others; all visuals should be appropriate for a public meeting space.
- Please mute your mic and refrain from making written comments when your own work is being critiqued.

Expanding Library Services on May 17Beginning Monday, May 17, the New Orleans Public Library will expand services, including allowing patrons to come into Library buildings without making appointments. The Library will continue to follow City health officials and CDC guidelines in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing. As City of New Orleans government buildings, all New Orleans Public Library locations require masking. Expanded services include the following: - Libraries open for walk-in service: tables and chairs will also be available
- Library Hours Expanded: Mondays - Thursdays from 10am - 6pm and Fridays & Saturdays from 10am - 5pm
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Library will only be open for contactless pick-up & drop-off on Mondays & Wednesdays from 10am - 1pm.
- Due to facilities maintenance, Alvar Library will only be open for contactless pick-up & drop-off on Mondays - Thursdays from 10am - 6pm and Fridays & Saturdays from 10am - 5pm.
- The City Archives & Special Collections are open by appointment Mondays - Fridays from 10am - 5pm. Please contact the Archives at 504-596-2610 or archivist@nolalibrary.org for assistance or to schedule an appointment.
- Book Drops open
