Today – June 4, 2017 – marks the 30th annual National Cancer Survivors Day®. Welcome to the celebration! Thousands of people in hundreds of communities around the world are celebrating life with you today.
National Cancer Survivors Day® is an unforgettable Celebration of Life for anyone who has been touched by cancer. Today, we gather – as cancer survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, family members, and friends – to pay tribute to those who are living with a history of cancer and to bring attention to the ongoing challenges they still face, but, most importantly, to celebrate life.
Life after cancer is about more than just surviving. It’s about living. It’s celebrating milestones, both the major and the mundane. It’s about thriving, in spite of adversity.
Thanks in part to medical breakthroughs, cancer survivors are living longer, more active lives than they ever have before. And that’s something to celebrate. However, survivors still face ongoing hardships because of their disease.
Today, on National Cancer Survivors Day® 2017, may citizens across the globe stand with the cancer survivors in their community and make a commitment to lessening this burden of cancer survivorship. Let today be a celebration of how abundant life after cancer can be. But may it also be a call to action for more research, resources, and legislation to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors.
Who is a cancer survivor?
The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a survivor as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. National Cancer Survivors Day® offers your community an opportunity to show that it has a valuable and vital cancer survivor population, as well as to make a commitment to improving the lives of cancer survivors.
