SUMMER 2017 ARTS QUARTERLY DEBUTS AS DIGITAL EDITION
 
The Summer 2017 edition of NOMA's magazine, Arts Quarterly, debuted this week online with a host of features and event listings. We invite you to read more about Pride of Place: The Making of Contemporary Art in New Orleansour summer-long exhibition featuring the donated collection of renowned gallerist Arthur Roger. A timeline of the history of contemporary art is included, along with a list of featured artists who will offer lectures in the weeks ahead. Additional content includes the acquisition of a Clarence John Laughlin photograph with an unusual link to the Abry Brothers shoring business, an interview with lawyer and NOMA donor Tim Fields, background on the Big Easy Chair by Ron Arad that is drawing attention in the newly imagined decorative arts galleries, and select items for sale in the NOMA Shop.

FRIDAY NIGHTS AT NOMA FEATURES MUSICIAN JAMES SINGLETON AND ARTIST FRANCES SWIGART-STEG

Friday Nights at NOMA, July 7, 5 - 9 p.m.

Frances Swigart-Steg, wife of the late artist Jim Steg and an artist in her own right, will share her memories and discuss the artworks of her husband whose career is the subject of the exhibition Jim Steg: New WorkThe gallery talk will begin at 6 p.m.Friday Nights at NOMA programming will also include musical sets by acoustic bassist, composer, and producer James Singleton, a member of the New Orleans-based jazz group Astral Project, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The family-friendly Art on the Spot activity table will be set up from 5 -8 p.m. Café NOMA by Ralph Brennan and all galleries will be open till 9 p.m.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES FOR JULY 5 - 12

StoryQuest | Saturday, July 811 - 11:30 a.m. 
Professional authors, actors, and artists bring the world of children's literature to NOMA in StoryQuest, a family program that encourages museum exploration and a love of reading. The program is ideal for children ages 2-7 and is included with museum admission. 
 
FREE ADMISSION year-round for Louisiana Teens
For the summer school break ahead, request a Teen Pass that offers free admission to the museum year-round for Louisiana visitors ages 13-19, courtesy of The Helis Foundation. Visit the NOMA website for more information.

WELLNESS CLASSES AMONG THE ARTWORKS

Yoga in the Sculpture Garden: Saturday, July 88 - 9 a.m.

Tai Chi/Chi Kung in the Galleries: Monday, July 106 - 7 p.m.

NOMA, in collaboration with East Jefferson Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.

Classes are $5; FREE for NOMA members and East Jefferson Wellness Center members. To register, call East Jefferson Healthfinder at 504.456.5000.
IN THE WEEKS AHEAD AT NOMA
  
Friday, July 14: Celebrate French culture in cool comfort at the Bastille Day Fête inside NOMA's Great Hall. The Bon Bon Vivant swing band will provide musical entertainment and guided tours in French and English will be offered along with French-themed children's activities and a cooking demonstration.

Friday, July 21In conjunction with the exhibition Pride of Place, The Making of Contemporary Art in New Orleans, a John Waters Film Festival will kick off with a screening of Pink Flamingos (NC-17; no one under age 18 will be admitted). Due to an expected large audience turnout, the movie will be shown twice at 7 and 9 p.m. In the weeks ahead, mark your calendars and prepare to laugh along with:
