NEWS from the Cancer Support Community

Dear Friends,
This month, we were more motivated than ever to help those impacted by cancer.
We jumped into June with the launch of #HopeCrane, a campaign designed to spread hope and inspiration on social media. From author and cancer survivor Caitlin Kiernan, to the Orlando Health Cancer Center, people all over the country gave their social media feeds wings of hope.
It's not too late to board the crane train - our campaign ends this Saturday, so make a crane and make it count!
We were also busy working on several important issues for cancer patients and their loved ones. From presenting new research, to following a new rule on association health plans, we encourage you to take a look at the news below and spread the word.
In Appreciation,
The Cancer Support Community Team
(P.S. We want to wish a happy birthday to our beloved Gilda Radner, as today would've been her 72nd birthday. We are always grateful for how she touched countless lives of those impacted by cancer.)

Wings of Hope

Each year on the first Sunday in June as part of National Cancer Survivors Day, we pay tribute to more than 15 million cancer survivors and their loved ones in the US.
This year we asked that you make a paper crane and share your story on social media using the hashtag #HopeCrane.
Follow the instructions on our page to make your social media feed a source of inspiration and hope.

Together, We Can Improve Cancer Care

Join us in making your voice heard through the Cancer Experience Registry
The Cancer Experience Registry is a unique online community that allows people facing cancer to share their experience, identify the issues that impact their lives, take surveys, access resources and learn from each other.
It is free, confidential and open to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer or provides care to someone with cancer.

ASCO 2018: Advancing From Precision Medicine to Precision Care

The American Society of Clinical Oncology’s annual conference in June is the largest gathering of oncology professionals from around the world.
Throughout the conference, we presented our latest research abstracts on issues affecting patients and their loved ones, including important findings on melanoma, gastric cancer, and eating and nutrition.
Our CEO, Kim Thiboldeaux, shared a dispatch from the road on why we must take the whole of the cancer patient experience into account.

Administration's New Rule Could Put Patients' Health Coverage at Risk

Back in January, the Trump Administration proposed a new rule that would expand the availability of Association Health Plans (AHPs) that are exempt from regulations like the 10 essential health benefits (EHBs) set by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare).
This week, the Trump Administration released a finalized policy to allow loosely affiliated business to band together as AHPs and offer plans that are not held to many important ACA consumer protections.
While it is unlikely that cancer patients would be interested, or able, to purchase AHPs, there are still concerns regarding the impact this will have on individuals with chronic illnesses.

Ready. Raise. Rise.

We know that facing cancer takes enormous personal strength- and that each person's inspiration is unique to them.
That's why we're asking you to show how you harness your unique inner power to rise up against the disease.
To participate in the Pic Your Power challenge, go to Facebook and share a photo holding a sign that says #ReadyRaiseRise. Remember to review the submissions guidelines to ensure your photo will be accepted. With a total of one hundred photo submissions, Bristol-Myers Squibb will donate $250,000 to be split evenly across participating cancer advocacy groups - including us!
