NEW: August Newsletter from the Cancer Support Community

On July 13, we traveled to the Colorado State Capitol, where our CEO and local leaders joined Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne as she read a proclamation declaring Cancer Caregivers Day in the Rocky Mountain State.
At the State Capitol, we also announced our new partnership with Colorado's largest provider of cancer care, Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, which was made possible due to the generous financial support of the Barbara Bradley Baekgaard Foundation.
We also were busy spreading the word about two important cancer milestones: World Head & Neck Cancer Day and Sarcoma Awareness Month. From posting on our blog, to sharing our free educational resources through our booklets, radio show, and social media, we made sure our materials reached as many people as possible.
We encourage you to take a look at what else we were up to in July below and spread the word.
In Appreciation,
The Cancer Support Community Team

A Capitol Idea: Cancer Caregivers Day

From helping loved ones understand their treatment options, to navigating the health care system and providing financial and emotional support, cancer caregivers often go unpaid for the assistance they give to people living with cancer.
Catch a recap of this event and read some of the proclamation honoring Cancer Caregivers Day in Colorado on our blog

Nutrition with Head and Neck Cancer

Many people undergoing treatment for cancer face challenges with eating and nutrition, but people facing head and neck cancer and its related treatments face some of the most daunting ones because of the location of their cancer.
According to a recent study, up to 80 percent of patients with head and neck cancers are malnourished, some prior to even starting treatment because their tumors cause eating problems.
On our latest episode of Frankly Speaking About Cancer, our guests share their experiences, insights and knowledge so that you can make the best, most informed decisions for you and your loved ones.

Eating Well with Head & Neck Cancer

In addition to our radio show, we also recognized those living with head & neck cancer by sharing our latest booklet on social media during World Head & Neck Cancer Day on Friday, July 27.
Eating healthy can help prevent weight loss, lack of appetite, and other side effects of head and neck cancer treatment. It can also help you feel better and respond better to your cancer treatment.
Read the booklet and view other materials on our free eating well with head & neck cancer resource page

Meet Sara

This month one of our oncology social workers, Sara Goldberger, shared with Bristol-Myers Squibb, a supporter of CSC, her perspective on some of the challenges faced by people with cancer.

Why We Need Greater Education Around Sarcoma

What is sarcoma and why is it sometimes called the “forgotten cancer?"
With more than 50 different subtypes, sarcomas are most commonly found in the legs, hands, arms, head, neck, chest, shoulders, abdomen, and hips.
During Sarcoma Awareness Month, we shared resources on our blog and urged greater awareness of this rarer cancer.

Cancer Support Community Wins Award for Educational Materials

In July, the Awards for Publication Excellence honored our Immunotherapy & Me materials.
