News from the Cancer Support Community

Dear Friends,
October is more than a typical fall month full of activities like carving pumpkins and going apple picking - it's also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an important time to let your friends and family know about prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
In addition to free resources on breast cancer and other types of cancer, in this issue we have news on recent legislation that may impact prescription drug costs, a link to our voting resources, and a guide to CSC's radio show that covers a range of helpful topics. Plus, we pay tribute to a dear CSC Champion and welcome a new member to the CSC affiliate network.
See below to check out where we've been this past month and feel free to forward to your friends and loved ones.
In Appreciation,
The Cancer Support Community Team
P.S.- Scroll down to learn more about a free webinar slated for Monday, November 19.

New Laws Could Help Patients Reduce Out-of-Pocket Drug Spending

President Trump recently signed two bills into law aimed at reducing patient out-of-pocket spending on prescription medications. The “Patient’s Right to Know Drug Prices Act” and the “Know the Lowest Price Act” address a practice known as “gag clauses.” Gag clauses are used by health plans or pharmacy benefit managers to prevent pharmacists from alerting patients at the pharmacy counter when they could be saving money on prescriptions if they choose not to use their health insurance and simply pay out-of-pocket directly.
Find out what these laws could mean for you and your loved ones on our blog.

The first was recorded live from the Biden Cancer Summit in Washington, DC, and features patients and advocates sharing their cancer experiences.
The second is the next episode in our series on metastatic breast cancer. It focuses on advanced care planning for people living with metastatic breast cancer.
The third is a conversation with award winning author Nancy Sharp about her book, "Both Sides Now: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Bold Living."
We encourage you to share these episodes if you find them helpful and informative.

CSC Honors the Life of Marin Mazzie

On October 25, the Broadway community gathered in New York City to celebrate the life and legacy of Marin Mazzie, a Tony Award nominee who died of ovarian cancer in September.
Mazzie and her husband, Broadway actor Jason Danieley, are longtime CSC Champions and received our Founders Award for Empowerment in 2016.
CSC President Linda House, who had the honor of speaking at the event about Mazzie's advocacy efforts, announced that the 2019 Founders Award would be named after Mazzie.
