The Louisiana Cancer Prevention and Control Programs, which are housed at the LSU Health New
Orleans’ School of Public Health, and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, launched SurviveDAT, a
resource for young breast cancer patients and caregivers in 2011. SurviveDAT then expanded its
online communications beyond southern Louisiana to become the lead in the Gulf States Young
Breast Cancer Survivor Network (GS YBCSN) which offers online support and resources to young
women all over Louisiana, through SurviveMISS headed by the University of Mississippi Medical Center,
and through SurviveAL, overseen by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Nursing.
The GS YBCSN is supported by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
