Tickets on sale for April 13th Egg Hunt and Family Fest
Thousands of treat-filled plastic eggs will be up for grabs in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden (or inside the museum, weather dependent) at the ever-popular NOMA Egg Hunt and Family Fest on Saturday, April 13, from 10 am to 1 pm. Bring the family for a fun-filled day that includes a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, spacewalks and more. Buy tickets now for this event that regularly sells out.

Film and panel discussion will examine African art repatriation and conditions in modern-day Nigeria
On Friday, April 12, from 6 - 8 pm, African Art Curator Ndubuisi Ezeluomba will lead a panel discussion among Nigerians living in New Orleans titled "Looking Closely at Social Conditions in Nigeria Today" following the screening of the movie Invasion 1897 (2014 | Rated PG-13 | 1 hour, 53 minutes). The film focuses on a contemporary Nigerian art scholar who is put on trial for stealing African artifacts from a London museum -- cultural artifacts that had been looted during a British invasion of the Benin kingdom in 1897. NOMA Book Club to discuss mystery of a rare photograph of bluesman Robert Johnson
The NOMA Book Club's selection for April is Portrait of a Phantom: The Story of Robert Johnson's Lost Photograph by Zeke Schein with Poppy Z. Brite.
A curatorial program with Photography Curatorial Fellow Brian Piper will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 12 - 1 pm, in the Felix J. Dreyfous Library in NOMA's basement. Group discussion about the book will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 12 - 1 pm. Summer Art Camps open for enrollment
Summer Art Camps are selling out fast. Enroll now in any or all of the eight weeklong sessions from June 3 to August 2 (excluding the week of July 4). The fee is $300 per week for NOMA members | $400 per week for nonmembers. Choose from visual or performing art camps for age groups 5-7 and 8-10.

High school students encouraged to join Teen Squad
NOMA seeks creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated high school students are encouraged to join the Teen Squad. Participating students meet weekly after school to participate in workshops with artists, tour the museum with staff, and visit other cultural institutions. The program is open to all high school youth from a variety of school settings: charter, public, private, homeschool, etc. Read more about Teen Squad and apply.

Join a talk or tour
Gallery Talks are casual conversations scheduled at noon between artists, curators, and other special guests with NOMA visitors. Curator Katie Pfohl will join Curatorial Fellow Allison Young for an Art Primer on the "Louisiana Five" on Wednesday, April 10, based upon the Five From Louisiana exhibition NOMA hosted in 1977. Pfohl will lead a discussion about Ear to the Ground: Earth and Element in Contemporary Art on Wednesday, April 17.
Guided tours of the museum are offered daily at noon. Tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are given on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. Call 504.658.4153 to verify.

Baby ArtsPlay! engages youngest NOMA visitors
Instill a love of art at an early age through a guided, interactive experience with Baby ArtsPlay! Young Audiences Wolf Trap teaching artists will present a series of six workshops on Saturday mornings for children ages 0-3 and their caregivers. Parents, grandparents, guardians and their young ones are welcome to join the the fifth of six sessions of Baby ArtsPlay! on Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 am, which will focus on motor skills, titled "Baby Balancing Acts" (Bilaterial Integration). Wellness Classes among the artworks
NOMA, in collaboration with East Jefferson Wellness Center, offers wellness classes every Saturday morning and Monday evening.
Yoga in the Sculpture Garden: Saturday, April 13, 8 - 9 am
Tai Chi/Chi Kung: Monday, April 15, 6 - 7 pm

In the weeks ahead
Thursday, April 18, 6 - 8 pm: In conjunction with the exhibition Keith Sonnier: Until Today, NOMA will host a concert by Louisiana-born artist, photographer, and saxophonist Dickie Landry. Admission is $10 NOMA members | $15 nonmembers.

SAVE THE DATE! The much-anticipated expansion of the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden opens to the public on Wednesday, May 15, at 11 am. Read more about our progress on this exciting addition to NOMA. Please note that the museum will be closed all day on Tuesday, May 14, for a special event. The original Sculpture Garden will be open on that date, but with shortened hours from 10 am to 2 pm.
