March 6: NOMA's Teen Squad presents Teen Night: VIBRANT DIMENSIONS   
 
Brought to you by NOMA's Teen Squad, Teen Night: VIBRANT DIMENSIONS is a Friday night takeover at the museum planned by teens, for teens. On Friday, March 6 from 6 to 9 pm teens may enjoy a FREE night of art, music, and activities inspired by the work of artists Alia Ali and Odili Donald Odita. (Standard admission applies to all visitors over age 19.) All teens receive free admission to the museum year-round courtesy of The Helis Foundation. 
NOTE: Café NOMA will close after 6 pm on March 6, but a food truck from Tacos by Heidi will be parked in front of the museum. 
Opening March 13: NOMA hosts major exhibition of Asian art from Buddhist and Hindu traditions
 
More than 70 of the finest examples of Asian art spanning two millennia, collected by John D. Rockefeller 3rd and his wife Blanchette, will be showcased in an exhibition on loan from the Asia Society opening March 13. Complementary exhibitions of art from Jain and Portuguese-Goan Catholic traditions, collected by New Orleans physician Dr. Siddharth Bhansali, will be presented in the third-floor Indian art galleries. Note that entry to Buddha and Shiva, on view through June 7, will require a surcharge of $5 in addition to standard museum admission. NOMA members are admitted free.

2020 Summer Camps open for enrollment
 
NOMA members may now enroll kids ages 5 through 10 in a series of six weeklong Summer Art Camps in the months of June and July. Campers will explore the museum's galleries and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden for inspiration, and explore their own ideas and creative responses about art and human connection through a variety of mediums. Sign your young artist up for one session, or many! NEW THIS YEAR is a Teen Intensive for campers ages 11 through 13 from June 8-12. For all camps, the members rate is $300 per week | nonmembers $400 per week. 
Sign up for Studio KIDS! workshops
 
The Studio KIDS! workshop series is underway! Children ages 5 to 10 are invited to get creative and learn art-making techniques inspired by works in the galleries and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Classes are held Saturday mornings from 10 am to 12 pm. The next workshop will be held on March 7 under the theme "Imprints in the Interior." $25 members | $30 nonmembers. 
Join a sensory-friendly Brushes Without Boundaries art experience for kids and families
 
In partnership with the New Blue Foundation, art therapist Kate Lacour and contemporary artist Devin "Cypher" Dennis will lead a free sensory-friendly art-making workshop for participants ages 6 to 12 and their guardians on Sunday, March 15, from 10 am to noon. Advance registration required. The workshop is limited to twelve families. 
Visitors are encouraged to join traditional Indian dancing demonstrations during India Fest.
Save the date: India Fest returns on Saturday, March 14
 
India Fest, a vibrant celebration of the art, food, dance, and many cultures of India returns to NOMA, in partnership with the Indian Arts Circle of New Orleans. Hours are 10 am to 4 pm. General admission is $10 | $5 for NOMA members.

Guided tours of the museum are offered daily at 1 pm.  

Tours of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are given on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at noon, weather permitting. Call (504) 658-4153 to verify.

  • 12 pm: Benjamin Benus, associate professor of art and design history at Loyola University, will discuss the legacy of Austrian emigre and Bauhaus teacher Herbert Bayer in the United States. 
Teen Days of Service scheduled through spring 2020
 
Teens of all ages are invited to participate in monthly days of service in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden on the following Saturdays: March 28, and April 25, from 8:30 to 11:30 am. Contact Garden Manager Pamela Buckman at (504) 658-4153.

In the weeks ahead
 
Friday, March 13, 5 - 9 pm: During Friday Nights at NOMAAsian art scholar Robert Del Bontà will speak at 6 pm upon the opening of Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon. Artist Alia Ali will discuss her exhibition, FLUX, at 7 pm.

Thursday, March 19, 6 pm: Black comics and graphic artist John Jennings will speak in partnership between NOMA's Arts & Letters Series and The Amistad Research Center's Conversations in Color. 

Friday, March 20, 5 - 9 pm: Irish-born American artist Sean Scully, whose sculpture Colored Stacked Frames is among the works in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, will speak as part of Friday Nights at NOMA.
Wednesday, March 25: SAVE THE DATE! Sponsorships and tickets are on sale for the patron preview, lectures, and a luncheon for the 2020 Art in Bloom presented by IBERIABANK. The showcase of floral displays will be on view from Thursday, March 26*, through Sunday, March 29. (*Note that public hours will be from 1 - 7 pm on March 26; standard hours apply to all other days. The museum will be open on Friday, March 27 until 9 pm.)
Saturday, April 4, 10 am to 1 pm: Tickets are now on sale for the 2020 NOMA Egg Hunt and Family Festival. Bring your family for a fun-filled day featuring egg hunts, a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, and more!

The NOMA Book Club reading selections for 2020 have been chosen.  
View the list of eleven books at the link below. The next session of 2020 will be held on Tuesday, March 24, at noon to discuss Hidden in Plain Sight: A Secret History of Quilts and the Underground Railroad by Jacqueline L. Tobin and Raymond Dobar.
