COVID-19 Resources for Residents May 2020 Greetings from NOLA Ready! We hope you and your family are healthy and well! Though the last few months have not been easy, we thank you all for making the daily sacrifices to keep our community safe. During this unprecedented time, we want you to know where to find resources and assistance if you need it.  NOLA Ready continues to collaborate with local and state organizations and coordinate services to hard-hit New Orleanians: You may have seen our NOLA Ready Coronavirus Assistance page that provides detailed information about support available. Check out our new resource calendar to see what's available every day. Keep reading to discover resources for food, housing and legal assistance, unemployment insurance information, mobile testing sites, and mental health support. If you haven't already, text COVIDNOLA to 888777 to receive updates on COVID19. Thank you for sticking with us, we'll get through this together.  -The NOLA Ready Team Food Assistance Visit one of the free food sites in New Orleans, where food and supplies are provided to hospitality workers, gig economy workers, musicians, artists, and anyone in need. Call 211 for information on daily food pantries and meal distribution operations.  Call 311 if you are a senior and/or home bound due to special medical needs and would like to sign up for the Hands On Senior Meal Program.  Ensure your children are getting nutritious meals. NOLA Public Schools are giving out free breakfast and lunch meals for children every Monday and Wednesday at these locations. NORD is giving out afterschool meals during the week at these locations.  Sign up for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program if you are experiencing food insecurity.  View food sites and resources here Housing, Evictions, and Legal Aid View legal and housing resources Remember that residential evictions have been suspended. Call 3-1-1 to report illegal evictions.   If you are dealing with threat of eviction, or need legal aid, call the Southeast Louisiana Legal Hotline at 1-844-244-7871 Click here to watch an information video by Southeast Louisiana Legal Society on the current state of evictions in Louisiana, what to do if your landlord illegally locks you out, and how to talk to your landlord about May rent. Visit LA.FreeLegalAnswers.org - an online pro bono program where users who qualify can ask civil legal questions (housing, family law, wills, etc.) through the site which are answered by volunteer attorneys.  Receive assistance for homelessness from one of these organizations.  Unemployment Insurance You may be eligible for unemployment insurance if: Your work hours have been reduced because of lack of work due to Coronavirus. Your workplace closes temporarily, and you are not being compensated. You have been instructed not to go to work, and you are not being paid while at home. If this applies to you, sign up for unemployment insurance. The City of New Orleans Job 1 office is assisting with filing unemployment claims. Call (504) 658-4500 Monday through Friday 8:30am to 6:30pm. Due to high call volume, please be patient.  Get unemployment help Mobile Testing Sites Over the next few weeks, mobile testing for COVID-19 will rotate through metro area neighborhoods that have been hit hard by the virus. You are eligible for testing if you are 18+ years old, and have recently been exposed or had symptoms of the virus. This week, testing will be on the West Bank at the Marrero Community Center Tuesday-Friday 8am-3pm. Next week, test sites will be in Midcity and New Orleans East.  Check testing dates and locations Mental Health Support Stressed, sad, anxious, or overwhelmed? Need to talk? Get services for domestic violence and sexual assault.  Get mental health support Volunteer Opportunities Want to help distribute food to families and individuals impacted by COVID19? Sign up to volunteer with Culture Aid Nola, Hands On New Orleans, Second Harvest Food Bank, and other amazing organizations stepping up to take care of our community Do you have a medical or behavioral health background? The City of New Orleans is seeking licensed volunteers to help with the COVID-19 response. Register to volunteer here.  Get involved with Sew Dat and volunteer to make face coverings for essential employees and food bank volunteers.  Get involved!
