This Week at the New Orleans Museum of Art ("NOMA")

NOVEMBER 4, 2020

Esther Hovers (Dutch, b. 1991) is fascinated by the now almost ubiquitous presence of surveillance cameras. Struck by the ways in which cameras are increasingly making judgments about what constitutes normal behavior so she set out to produce a body of work—a series of staged "false positives"—that mimics and undermines the authority of the camera. Her work is included in the exhibition New Photography: Create, Collect, Compile.

JOIN A VIRTUAL PREVIEW OF NEW PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

Sign up for a free curator-led virtual preview of New Photography: Create, Collect, Compile, an exhibition of works by four contemporary artists that examines new practices in photography and how the medium reflects identity, community, and power. A happy-hour session will take place on Thursday, November 5, at 6 pm. The exhibition galleries open Friday, November 6.

CONTACTLESS TICKETING

Prepaid, contactless ticketing is encouraged for museum visits: Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Wednesdays remain free for Louisiana residents courtesy of The Helis Foundation.
