THE OFFICIAL CRESCENT CITY FARMERS MARKET APP IS LIVE!

We love seeing you browsing the markets in person but we know life gets busy and shopping for your favorite fresh foods can sometimes be a challenge. The new Crescent City Farmers Market (CCFM) App gives you early access to a selection of what’s at market by hosting its vendors in an online farmers market. Make your meal planning easier and guarantee your favorite item doesn’t sell out before you get there by downloading the CCFM App on your mobile device to preview products available at our markets, pre-purchase your items and then simply stop by market at your convenience to pick-up orders. This can give you the convenience and peace of mind knowing that what you want will be there waiting for you without rushing to market, and help vendors make sales before market even starts. With over 20 vendors currently on the app and more to come, you have a wide range of local food at your fingertips.

How it works

  • Download the free Crescent City Farmers Market app for Apple or Android mobile devices: http://onelink.to/6jt5y2
  • Browse items on your mobile device before market, and make your selections by adding them to your cart.
  • Pay through the app using a credit or debit card. Upon checkout, you will be charged a 5% Food System Fee that covers the cost of processing the transaction and allows the vendors to participate in the app for free, helping to make small family farms and food businesses more sustainable. Your payment goes directly to the vendor and they receive their listed price. To find out more about why this is significant, check out this article that explains why farmers typically receive $.078 of every food dollar spent.
  • Each time you shop, select a market location and day for pick-up. Your order will be held at each individual vendor’s tent on the market date specified and ready for pickup.
But, what’s the best news of all? We’re offering a 25% off discount on your first order with the app! Upon checkout, use the coupon code “FIRSTORDER” to receive your discount.
We have a great assortment of vendors and products currently represented on the app, and will be working to bring more of both online. If there’s something in particular you’d like to see on the app, let us know, or go straight to the source and let the vendor know! Sophie will be at the welcome tent in the coming weeks so check in with her if you have any questions about how it works, or with feedback, or anything else app related. Or you can call us at (504) 861-4488 or email sophie@marketumbrella.org any time.

Happy shopping!

New Laws Could Help Patients Reduce Out-of-Pocket Drug Spending

President Trump recently signed two bills into law aimed at reducing patient out-of-pocket spending on prescription medications. The “Patient’s Right to Know Drug Prices Act” and the “Know the Lowest Price Act” address a practice known as “gag clauses.” Gag clauses are used by health plans or pharmacy benefit managers to prevent pharmacists from alerting patients at the pharmacy counter when they could be saving money on prescriptions if they choose not to use their health insurance and simply pay out-of-pocket directly.
Find out what these laws could mean for you and your loved ones on our blog.

Turning My Back On The Past

Would would happen if I turned my back to the past and faced forward? It is time to stop wishing I could go back to my pre-cancer life. It's time to face forward.

PUBLISHED November 01, 2018

Dana Stewart was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 at the age of 32. She is the co-founder of a cancer survivorship organization called The Dragonfly Angel Society. She volunteers as an advocate and mentor, focusing on young adults surviving cancer. She enjoys writing about life as a cancer survivor, as well as connecting survivors to the resources, inspirations and stories that have helped her continue to live her best life, available at www.dragonflyangelsociety.com.
I have gotten quite good at living in the past. Ever since my breast cancer diagnosis eight years ago, I have made cancer my constant companion. Sure, the diagnosis was a long time ago. Sure, the doctors have told me all my treatment is done and I can go on with my life. The problem is I want the life I left behind. When everyone tells me that I should go on with my life, I don't know what that means. To me, my life is back a little over eight years ago, before I was told I had cancer. That's the life I want to go on with. I want to pick it up and be just like I was.

This whole thought process is where the "new normal" after cancer is supposed to take the spot light. It's supposed to guide us forward and show us how to get on with our changed lives. The problem for me is that I couldn't accept it. I didn't like the new normal. I didn't like what it stood for. I am very goal-oriented. When I was diagnosed, I put together a plan with my medical team of everything that had to be done and the timing for all the treatment. I marked off the days until my goal would become a reality. That day was my last day of chemo treatment. My surgeries were done. My chemo was done. That was the day I could run back to my pre-cancer self, give her a big hug and feel the elation of being reunited.
